Te Akau Cambridge Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Thursday October 23 at Cambridge.

The footing was rated Dead4, with the rail out three metres.

Heat 1 Open 1200 metres (neck, 1 length, 1:12.23)
Abidewithme (5 m Redoute's Choice - Crimson) - Matt Cameron (below); broke well and settled back last six lengths off the leader, worked herself forward on the turn and powered to the line for third under minimal urging.

Karafly

Heat 2 Open 1200 metres (1 length, 1 length, 1:13.71)
La Adelita (4 m High Chaparral - Romantic Liaisons) - Michael Coleman ; sat second ½ length off the leader on a slow pace, stretched out nicely in straight to sprint home for second.

Heat 5 Open 950 metres (neck, 1 ¼ lengths, 56.09)
Quintette (4 m Alamosa - Everswindell) - Matthew Cameron (below); missed the kick and settled back last ten lengths off the leader, ran on nicely in the straight to make up lengths in a speedy heat.

Bouncyfinish

Heat 7 2YO 650 metres (head, 4 ½ lengths, 38.45)
Fine Choice ( 2 c Coat's Choice - She's Refined) - Cameron Lammas; broke well showing good gate speed to sit outside the leader. Took over in the straight and showed plenty to win despite being headed.

2 f Encosta de Lago - Chasing Mammon - Matthew Cameron; broke well and was run off her feet early, made up ground in the straight under her own steam and was doing her best work after the line.

Heat 8 2YO 650 metres (2 ½ lengths, 2 ½ lengths, 39.24)
Safekeeping (2 c Keeper - Kirin Belle) - Cameron Lammas; jumped away fastest to take the lead, galloped comfortably through the line to hold second.

2 c O'Reilly - Suream - Matthew Cameron; broke well and settled nicely in third, held his ground nicely to finish third.

Heat 22 Maiden 3YO 950 metres (1/2 length, ¾ length, 59.64)
3 f Encosta de Lago - Grand Echezeaux - Matthew Cameron (below); landed behind the speed and was caught deep on a slow tempo behind the leaders, slid to the lead at the 400m mark and kept up a good gallop in hand for the win.

Zoefly

Heat 23 Maiden 4YO and up 950 metres (1 length, 2 ¼ lengths, 58.97)
Resonance (5 g Darci Brahma - Royal Rhythm) - Cameron Lammas; broke well from the gates to lead keeping up a good gallop in a fresh state and tired the last 200m to finish fourth.

Nemofly

Heat 24 Maiden 4YO and up 950 metres (1 length, ½ length, 58.77)
4g Savabeel - Greensleeves - Matthew Cameron (below); quick from the gates to lead comfortably, raced kindly on the turn and kicked away in the straight for an easy win.

Dannypower

Heat 25 Maiden 3YO 1200m (head, head, 1:14.83)
3 f Red Giant - Mantles Princess - Matthew Cameron (below); broke well settled back of midfield to relax nicely for a smooth run one off the fence and could not sprint with the leaders, gave ground.

Heat 26 Maiden 3YO 1200m (neck, 1 length, 1:15.31)
3f Tavistock - Macchiato - Cameron Lammas (below right); away from the gates nicely to travel fourth in the running one off the fence, let down nicely in the straight to win with the blinkers on.

Bordeaux (3 c High Chaparral - Our Echezeaux) - Matthew Cameron (below left); jumped well to sit midfield then worked his way forward from the 600m mark and kept up a good gallop out wide to run second.

KrugMegpower

Heat 27 Maiden 4YO and up 1200m (1 length, head, 1:14.04)
Maestro (4 g Encosta de Lago - Miss Scarlatti) - Cameron Lammas (below right); sat fifth in the running and worked his way through on the inside from the 400m mark to run on well for third.

SelineMaestro

Seline (4 m Pentire - Dion) - Matthew Cameron (below); broke well and positioned fourth in the running one off the rail, worked up to the front out wide under her own steam and won with her ears pricked.
