Te Akau Cambridge Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Friday December 5 at Cambridge.  The footing was rated Dead4, with the rail out one metre.

Heat 3 2YO 800 metres (head, head 46.9)
Bishop Rock (2 c Fastnet Rock - Festival Princess) - Matt Cameron; settled off the pace, six lengths at the 600m. Although running away from horses around the home bend, once balanced in the straight he exuded a good action working home.

Heat 6 Maiden 800 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 1 ½ lengths 46.9)
Got the Snitz (3 f Snitzel - Modave) - Matt Cameron; steadied back to the rear of the field and tracked up behind runners in the straight.

Heat 10 Open 950 metres (1 length, ¾ lengths 56.5)
Alchemy's Flight (4 m Darci Brahma - Eloa) - Danielle Johnson; settled sixth on the inner, worked off the rail approaching the home turn, quickened through between runners and showed nice extension in a good late bid to claim second.

Sir Darci (4 g Darci Brahma - Dominant) - Matt Cameron; caught the start nicely to travel on the bridle in fifth. He improved to fourth at the 400m and rounded off solidly for a close fourth.

Heat 11 Open 950 metres (½ a length, 2 lengths 55.0)
Costa Viva (4 m Encosta De Lago - Vivacious Spirit) - Matt Cameron; travelled on the bridle in fifth along the inner, worked into the clear at the 400m and made good ground closing off for second.

Heat 13 Maiden 950 metres (2 lengths, 2 ¼ lengths 55.5)
Latin Rose (3 f Mastercraftsman - Down View) - Matt Cameron; began slowly and remained back in the field in a quickly run heat for this grade of horse.

Light Source (3 f Iffraaj - Shadow Ray) - Ed Zainal (apprentice); was easy off a wide gate to steady back in the field and unable to make up a lot of ground.

Heat 14 Maiden 950 metres (head, head 56.8)
Star of Greenbeel (4 g Savabeel - Greensleeves) - Matt Cameron; began well, travelled held together three wide on the pace and the jockey never moved as he worked home under a hold for second.

Heat 15 Maiden 950 metres (¾ lengths, 2 ¼ lengths 56.9)
Astrid (3 f Pins - Astralita) - Matt Cameron; reared at the start, standing the leader seven lengths at the 600m, tracked up with cover and worked home down the outer.

Heat 16 Open 1200 metres (neck, neck 1:12.0)
Abidewithme (5 m Redoute's Choice - Crimson) - Matt Cameron; eased for cover off a wide gate to settle ninth, jogging along, cruised up widest rounding the home bend and was never out of second gear moving into second at the line.

No Tricks (3 f Savabeel - Mezaire) - Michael Coleman; settled one off in seventh, under a nice hold when camped behind runners at the 400m and remained nicely held to get home stylishly for third.

Heat 17 Maiden 1200 metres (2 ¾ lengths, ¾ lengths 1:12.2)
3 g Saperavi - Eclectic Heights - Ed Zainal (apprentice); got back in running and requiring considerably further he remained rearward.

Heat 18 Maiden 1200 metres (1 length, 1 ¼ lengths 1:12.7)
Frock (3 f Road to Rock - Mya) - Matt Cameron; began well from barrier one, settling fifth on the inner and worked home against the rail without urging.

Heat 19 Maiden 1200 metres (head, 2 ¼ lengths 1:12.6)
Sequitur (3 c High Chaparral - Deduction) - Matt Cameron; got well back on a quick early tempo, standing the leader ten lengths at the 600m and got home in staying fashion behind the body of the field.
