Te Akau Cambridge Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Monday 9 November at Cambridge. The footing was rated Dead4, rail out 3 metres

Heat 8 2YO 950 metres (2 ½ lengths, 3 ½ lengths 57.8)

2 f Savabeel - Modern Lady - Jasmine Fawcett (below); steadied off her two rivals in third, she stood them three lengths at the 600m and exhibited a good action when quickening along the rail in the straight for second.

Heat 9 Open 950 metres (head, head 57.9)

Shillelagh (4 m Savabeel - Trocair) - Cameron Lammas (below); missed the start a touch, but by design she was happily placed at the rear and quickened up behind runners near the rail in the straight, finishing fifth, with plenty more in the tank.

Shill

Heat 10 Open 950 metres (¾ lengths, ¾ lengths 56.3)

Smashing (4 m Pins - Ruud Van Slaats) - Cameron Lammas (below); relaxed nicely outside the leader, she was untouched to quicken up alongside in the straight and went through the line untested in second.

Smash

Point Percy (4 g Sir Percy - Bankonher) - Michael McNab (below); got back on the inner, standing the leader five lengths at the 600m before peeling into the clear four wide on straightening and he rounded off solidly in a line of horses just off the first three.

Point

Heat 11 Maiden 950 metres (3 ¼ lengths, 2 ¼ lengths 56.0)

Red Poppy (3 f Iffraaj - Newgrange) - Ed Zac-Syed (below); began smartly to race three wide on a genuine tempo and after coursing a touch wide on straightening she stayed on gamely for fifth, showing good extension, in what was a sound trial given the trip and pace.

Poppy

Heat 12 Maiden 950 metres (2 lengths, ¾ lengths 57.3)

Vinevale (3 f Flying Spur - Eden Valley) - Cameron Lammas (below); jumped well from a wide gate but ended up posted three wide in fifth. She surged to level at the 200m without urging and sustained a solid run for second before rolling on well through the line.

Vine

Heat 18 Maiden 1200 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 1 length 1:12.7)

Fas (3 g No Excuse Needed - Scarlet Queen) - Michael McNab (below); worked hard early from the outside gate to cross in second at the 800m and with the leader, who set a torrid pace, he tired inside the final furlong.

Fas

Heat 19 Maiden 1200 metres (2 ½ lengths, 1 length 1:12.3)

Scandinavian (4 g Dylan Thomas - Blanche Amelia) - Mahammad Hanafi (below); worked forward to contest a genuine pace on the inner, his condition faltered in the straight but the outing will bring his fitness on markedly.

Scandin

Heat 20 Maiden 1200 metres (½ a length, head 1:13.2)

Coincidence (3 g Savabeel - Read My Lips) - Michael McNab (below); secured a good position in seventh on the inner and after tracking up behind horses into the straight he appeared a touch reluctant to take a gap and finished just off the leading division.

Coin

Heat 21 Maiden 1400 metres (1 length, ¾ lengths 1:24.3)

Sequitur (4 g High Chaparral - Deduction) - Cameron Lammas (below); was seventh early before tracking up with cover from the 800m to range four wide on straightening, but was unable to come on into the finish.
