Te Akau Cambridge Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday 23 February 23 at Cambridge  - the footing was rated Good3, rail true.

Heat 3 Open 935 metres (4 lengths, 1 ½ lengths 54.0)

Tatters (3 f Tavistock - Rattle) - Michael Coleman; worked across from the outside gate into fifth, travelled up with cover rounding the home bend and ran home solidly into a photo for fourth.

Heat 4 Open 935 metres (3 ½ lengths, ½ a head 53.0)

Thetruthisoutthere (3 f Starcraft - Absolute Faith) - Matt Cameron; was fifth on the inner behind tearaway leader, eight lengths astern at the 800m, improved 400m and ran on nicely, without urging, for fifth.

Heat 5 Open 935 metres (2 ¾ lengths, long neck 53.6)

Stella Di Paco (3 f Paco Boy - Savabeel Star) - Muhammad Hanafi; was patiently ridden in fifth, tracked up on the inner and displayed a good action finishing strongly into third.

Heat 6 2YO 630 metres (2 ¾ lengths, 2 lengths 36.5)

2 f Alamosa - Ensorcelez - Jasmine Fawcett; jumped well from barrier one to co-lead, quickened on straightening and came clear late in the piece to win easily.

Heat 7 2YO 630 metres (½ a length, neck 36.9)

Discretely Red (2 g Redwood - Scarlet Queen) - Alysha Collett; jumped out well before steadying for cover to be last of four, tracked up well on the inner, then worked across heels late to be rounding up his rivals at the line.

Heat 8 2YO 630 metres (short neck, long neck 37.6)

Lucy Wyldstyle (2 f Savabeel - Lego) - Cameron Lammas; did well from the outside gate to work into a trailing position, tracked into the clear mid straight and finished close up in fourth.

2 f Alamosa - Cavendish Belle - Muhammad Hanafi; jumped away well but caught wide near pace and showed a good action to finish just off them.

Heat 9 2YO 800 metres (long head, long neck 46.3)

2 g Pour Moi - Madam Stravinsky - Cameron Lammas; began smartly, worked forward to lead at the 600m and although collared at the 200m he kept up a strong gallop for fourth.

Heat 10 2YO 800 metres (neck, long head 46.5)

2 g Darci Brahma - Sans Souci - Cameron Lammas; away well to camp on the leaders, he was held in a pocket down the straight and finished on the heels of the first four with more to offer.

Heat 11 2YO 800 metres (long head, 3 ¾ lengths 45.8)

Abloom (2 f Darci Brahma - Corsage) - Cameron Lammas; began well to receive a perfect trail and after the ahead of her kicked at the 200m she kept up a solid gallop for third.

Heat 12 2YO 800 metres (short head, 3 ¼ lengths 45.6)

Alrina (2 f Alamosa - Zorina) - Michael McNab; began swiftly from the outside barrier to cross into fourth, ranged three wide around the home bend and kept up a solid for third.

Heat 13 2YO 800 metres (long head, 2 ¾ lengths 46.1)

Lady Jasmine (2 f Darci Brahma - Lady Classique) - Matt Cameron; was caught three wide in fifth at the 600m and ran on solidly, exuding a good action, for fifth.

Heat 14 Maiden 800 metres (2 ½ lengths, long head 47.0)

Grazia (3 f Savabeel - Trocair) - Matt Cameron; worked across from a wide gate in midfield, steadied off heels to seventh at the 600m, tracked up behind runners and without urging made good ground into fifth.

Heat 15 Maiden 800 metres (2 ¾ lengths, dead-heat 54.9)

Splurge (3 c Savabeel - Splashing Out) - Michael McNab; out well to secure a perfect trail, held onto throughout and worked on nicely after the line in a lovely soft trial.

Heat 16 Maiden 800 metres (½ a length, ½ a length 45.7)

Coincidence (3 g Savabeel - Read My Lips) - Jasmine Fawcett; began well to share the pace on the inner, was third nearest the rail on straightening and just peaked on his run over the concluding stages.

Heat 18 2YO 935 metres (¾ lengths, 1 ¼ lengths 55.7)

Tiffany's Time (2 f Alamosa - Tinsel Time) - Michael McNab; was put in the trial to race outside the leader and kept up a solid gallop to finish close up in third.

Heat 19 2YO 935 metres (long head, 1 ½ lengths 55.2)

Zavistic (2 c Zacinto - Miss Avalon) - Alysha Collett; worked up on the inner to fourth at the 600m, stayed rail, tracked up under a hold and went strongly through the line for a close third.

Heat 22 Maiden 935 metres (neck, ¾ lengths 54.7)

3 g Postponed - Promissory - Alysha Collett; settled three back on the inner, six lengths astern at the 600m, angled across heels to the outside on straightening and worked home solidly for sixth.

Heat 23 Maiden 935 metres (3 ¼ lengths, 1 ¼ lengths 54.1)

3 g Per Incanto - Flying Florence - Matt Cameron; settled fifth on a competitive pace, worked up widest turn and ran on for sixth.

Heat 24 Maiden 935 metres (1 ¾ lengths, ¾ lengths 54.4)

Herschal (3 g Savabeel - Starring) - Michael McNab; steadied to last off the outside gate, nine lengths astern at the 600m and made ground between runners into sixth.

Heat 28 Maiden 1200 metres (long neck, ¾ lengths 1:12.8)

Echezeaux (4 m Encosta De Lago - Grand Echezeaux) - Matt Cameron; was easy off an outside gate to settle last of eight, progressed three wide with cover from 700m and presented widest on straightening she finished strongest to win well.
