Te Akau Cambridge Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday 29 March at Cambridge. The footing was rated Dead 5, rail true.
Heat 1 2yo Catchweight 630 metres (1L, 3/4L, 37.24)
2f Choisir - Mystic Flight - Cameron Lammas; jumped well from barrier two. Found a nice sit in behind the leader on the fence. Made ground up amongst runners to finish 1 3/4 lengths from the winner, in third equal.

Heat 3 2yo Catchweight 800 metres (3 1/4L 1 1/4L, 46.09)
2g Pins - Miss Katella - Cameron Lammas; jumped away nicely from the gates. He sat one off one back, was bought out coming for home, hit the line nicely in the centre of the track finishing in third for Cameron Lammas.

Heat 4 2yo Catchweight 800 metres (1 3/4L, 1 1/4 L, 46.58)
Colorado Prince (2g Alamosa - Sweet Dreams Baby) - Jasmine Fawcett; was let to find his feet from the wide gate, battled well up the rail to finish around 6 lengths from the winner. A good run from a staying type of horse.

Heat 5 2yo Catchweight 800 metres (3 1/2L, short head, 47.13)
Shocking Luck (2g Shocking - Shamardal Luck) - Cameron Lammas; got back from the wide gate, was bought to mid track on straightening, hit the line very strongly for second on a track that doesn't favour back runners. An impressive first trial.

Heat 6 2yo Catchweight 800 metres (short neck, 1 1/4L 46.84)
Zip Zap (2f Stravinsky - Miss Zapper) - Muhammad Hanafi; got back from the wide gate, made ground up the straight to finish in behind the leading pack in 5th. A good educational experience for her, and will have improvement in her.

Heat 17 Maiden Catchweight 935 metres (3/4 L, 1 1/4L, 54.58)
Esprit De Corps (3g Bel Esprit - Vercors) - Cameron Lammas; got back from his wide draw. Made ground amongst horses to finish 4th at the line, under no pressure. It was a lovely performance from him leading into autumn racing.

Heat 18 Open Catchweight 1200 metres (1 1/2L, 2L, 1.11.45)
Highly Likely (5g High Chaparral - Starrinka) - Muhammad Hanafi; was a bit worked up before hand. Travelled slightly worse than mid field, battled well amongst horses to finish about 4 lengths from the winner.

Heat 22 Maiden Catchweight 1470 metres (2 1/2L, 3 1/4L, 1.30.16)
3g Per Incanto - Flying Florence - Cameron Lammas; was hunted out of the gates towards lead, taken on in front, stayed at one pace up the straight.
