Heat 5 Maiden 3YO 950 metres (long head, ½ a length 56.0)

Belle En Rouge (3 f Burgundy - Cavendish Belle) - Opie Bosson; trailed third inner, angled clear in straight and she rounded off solidly to win.

Owned by Te Akau Beautiful in Red Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), she was bred by David Ellis CNZM & Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM.

 

Heat 8 Open 800 metres (¾ lengths, ½ a length 47.8)

Challa (5 g Dissident - Are There Any - below) - Joe Kamaruddin; began best to lead, travelled easily, and never pressed in winning.

Stakes' placed, and a three time winner to 1200 metres, he was purchased by David Ellis for $100,000, from the draft of Trelawney Stud, at the NZB 2018 Karaka Book 1 Sale in January, owned by the Te Akau Challa Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

 

 

 

Top Brass (6 g Epaulette - Highlight) - Niranjan Parmar; positioned second and he held his spot while remaining on the bridle.

Winner of five from 1000 to 1200 metres, owned by Terry Archer, Mike Beazley, Howard Perry, Stu Graham, Murray Darroch, Marcelle Douglas, Stuart Gladding, and A Dime-A-Dozen Syndicate, Top Brass is by multiple Group One winning sprint sire Epaulette (Commands).

 

Miss Aotearoa (4 m Per Incanto - Danex) - Opie Bosson; travelled three deep, four wide turn, and she closed the margin easily into fourth.

Two from three, including the Gold Trail Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m), she had been sidelined following surgery.  Owned and bred by Tony Rider (Milan Park), she is a half-sister to Matriarch Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m) and dual Listed winner Oceanex (Ocean Park), also Group Three and Listed winner Amexed (Pentire) - dam Danex (Danasinga) has now left 10 winners of 24 races.

 

Romantic Lady (5 m Power - Romantic Time) - Troy Harris; was easy off the gate to settle fifth of six, and she was not pressured in a quiet trial.

Winner of four over 1200 metres, she was purchased by David Ellis at the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Cambridge Stud, and is owned by Sir Patrick Hogan, John Aubrey, Richard Johnstone, Michael Macky, James Montgomerie and Warwick Taylor.

 

Aotea Lad (5 g Savabeel - Corsage - below) - Courtney Barnes; settled last, six lengths 600m, and he ran home fine in a quiet trial.

A Group Two winner, twice Group Three placed, and runner-up to stable-mate Probabeel (Savabeel) in the Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m), he is owned by the Te Akau Love Life Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM) and was purchased by David Ellis for $200,000, from the draft of Phoenix Park, at the 2018 Karaka Book 1 Sale.

 

 

 

Heat 9 Open 800 metres (short head, 1 ¾ lengths 46.9)

Vincere (5 g Pins - Lasting Luck - main picture) - Sam Weatherley; travelled easily three back outer, was drawn widest turn, and she quickened on her own accord to photo-finish for first.

A consistent performer and dual winner, she was purchased by David Ellis for $115,000 at the 2018 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Waikato Stud, and is owned by David and Hamish Coleman.

 

Sword of State (3 c Snitzel - In the Vanguard - below) - Opie Bosson; steadied to trail, clear on straightening, he was not pressed when photo-finishing for first.

The winner of four from five for Te Akau 2020 Four Colt Breeding Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), including the Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Waikato Stud Slipper (Gr. 3, 1200m), he was bred by Sir Owen Glenn, prepared by Newgate Farm, and purchased for $600,000 by David Ellis CNZM at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale 2020. Future standing rights for the son of Snitzel were secured by Cambridge Stud and he now races in the colours of part owners, Brendan Lindsay MNZM and Jo Lindsay of Cambridge Stud.

 

 

 

Feelin' Fancy (5 m Rip Van Winkle - Frivolous) - Troy Harris; worked forward outside the leader and she was held together finishing third.

Stylish winning twice to 1600 metres last season for owner/breeders Windsor Park Stud, she is from one of their best families.

 

No Limits (4 g Savabeel - Make A Wish) - Niranjan Parmar; was easy from barrier one to settle last, six lengths 600m, and he had more to offer while closing on the leaders in fifth.

A winner in April, by six-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), he is a brother to Group One placed stable-mate I Wish I Win, who was runner-up to stable-mate On The Bubbles (Brazen Beau) in the Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m).

 

Avonallo (3 g Belardo - Real Angel) - Joe Kamaruddin; began best to lead and not asked to quicken in the straight.

Owned by Chris Rutten (Cavallo Farm) and Sam Williams (Little Avondale Stud), he provided the first NZ stakes' success for his sire when winning the Welcome Stakes (Listed, 1000m) before finishing third to stable-mate On The Bubbles (Brazen Beau) in the Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m).

 

Heat 10 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (2 ¼ lengths, short neck 46.8)

Hayate (3 f Maurice - Vamoose) - Opie Bosson; settled mid inner, clear on straightening, and she quickened on the bridle for a smart win.

Purchased by David Ellis for $80,000 at the Karaka 2020 Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Mapperley Stud, she is owned by Fortuna Syndications (Mgr: John Galvin).

 

Heat 11 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (nose, 2 ½ lengths 46.8)

Patriarca (3 f Savabeel - Baby Shacks) - Samantha Collett; she began best to lead, travelled easily, and was joined on straightening - she remained held while shadowed in second.

Purchased by David Ellis for $325,000 at the Karaka 2020 Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Waikato Stud, she is owned by Te Akau Patriarca Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

 

3 f Rip Van Winkle - Shikoba - Niranjan Parmar; trailed third from barrier one and she was not pressured while running home well for fourth.

Owned and bred by Micaela Murray for whom Te Akau trained NZ Bloodstock Filly of the Year Shikoba (Chief Bearhart), dual Group One placed and triple Group Two winner of $307,000. By the sire of dual Group One winner Te Akau Shark, she carries a Northern Dancer cross in her sire-lines.

 

Heat 12 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (1 ¼ lengths, short neck 47.0)

Savasilk (3 f Savabeel - Silk Pins) - Opie Bosson; positioned fifth outer, drawn widest straight, and she looked good getting home for second.

Owned by Brendan Lindsay MNZM & Jo Lindsay, she was purchased by David Ellis for $360,000 at the 2020 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Cambridge Stud. She is from a Pins (Snippets) mare that finished second in the Karaka Million (Restricted Listed, 1200m) and Second Top Filly on the NZ 2YO Free Handicaps.

 

3 f Pierro - Onetangi- Danielle Johnson; was fifth 600m and she worked through between runners for third.

Owned by Mark, Nathan & Paul Apatu, Jomara Bloodstock, Adam Reynolds, Kevin Stocker and Justin Wyborn, she was bred by John Carter.

 

Heat 13 Maiden 4YO & Up 800 metres (10 lengths, 4 ¾ lengths 46.3)

Madame Moet (4 m Iffraaj - Champagne Katie) - Joe Kamaruddin; she worked up outside the leader and remained in second throughout.

Owned by Fortuna Madame Moet Syndicate (Mgr: John Galvin), she was purchased by David Ellis for $70,000, from the draft of Wentwood Grange, at the 2019 Karaka Book 1 Sale.

Heat 7 Maiden 3YO 950 metres (length, ½ a length 55.8)

Armoury (3 g Snitzel - Katie Lee) - Opie Bosson; pushed up from outside gate to position third, unable to quicken over sprint trip but he rolled on okay through line.

By Champion sire Snitzel (Redoute's Choice), from history maker Katie Lee (Pins), who won both the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m).

 

Heat 8 Maiden 3YO 950 metres (length, ½ a length 54.9)

Craving (3 f Tivaci - Inscrutable) - Troy Harris; trailed fourth from barrier one, but she was unable to lift with leaders in the straight.

Owned by Kerrie & Rob Cox (KR Bloodstock), she is from the first crop of Waikato Stud stallion Tivaci (High Chaparral), winner of the All Aged Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) at Randwick, and is out of a mare by Champion Broodmare Sire Encosta De Lago (Fairy King).

 

Heat 9 Maiden 3YO 950 metres (2 lengths, 3 ¼ lengths 55.3)

Illicit Miss (3 f Hinchinbrook - Unlawful) - Danielle Johnson; was easy off the outside gate, six lengths 600m, and she finished solidly for fourth.

Owned by Te Akau Illicit Miss Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM). From the last yearling crop of ill-fated stallion Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock), a three-quarter brother to four-time Champion Sire Snitzel (Redoute's Choice).

 

Heat 10 Maiden 3YO 950 metres (long head, 2 ½ lengths 55.3)

Pure Imagination (3 c Darci Brahma - Granadilla) - Opie Bosson; began well from the outside barrier to lead on the bridle and he lifted solidly to hold sway at the line.

Purchased by David Ellis last November at the Karaka Ready to Run Sale, from the draft of Lilywhites Lodge, he is by Champion five-time Group One winning stallion Darci Brahma (Danehill), whom Ellis also purchased.

 

Heat 13 Open 950 metres (nose, 4 ¾ lengths 55.2)

Leaderboard (6 g Street Cry - Flower Fairy - below) - Niranjan Parmar; got back, five lengths 600m, and over a sprint trip he found the line among horses before rolling on nicely after the post.

Owned by the Fortuna Leaderboard Syndicate (Mgr: John Galvin), he ended his campaign with consecutive wins to 2400 metres. By the sire of Winx, he was a strong winner over 2400 metres in Ireland, and was purchased in the U.K.

 

 

 

Heat 15 4YO & Up 950 metres (1 ½ lengths, 1 ¼ lengths 55.5)

Flat Track Bully (4 g Reliable Man - Lime Squeeze) - Niranjan Parmar; worked to third at the 600m and he finished strongly for second.

In training for owner/breeders Rod Duke and Gerard Petersen (Gee Gee Equine), he carries a Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector cross, from a mare by leading sire Exceed and Excel (Danehill).

 

Heat 16 4YO & Up 950 metres (1 ¼ lengths, neck 55.7)

La Flora Belle (4 m Iffraaj - Tsarina Belle) - Opie Bosson; began well to position handily on the outer, and she lifted appreciably to win stylishly.

A three-quarter sister to former stable-mate and dual Horse of the Year Melody Belle, winner of 14 Group One races, both bred by Marie Leicester, she is raced by Marie, Maryanne Robertson, Catheryne Roselli, Louise Beard, Angela Finucane, Jackie Morgan, Martin Marshall and Heather Mabin.

 

Heat 17 4YO & Up 950 metres (short neck, short head 55.5)

Rip Van Gogh (4 g Rip Van Winkle - On the Move - below) - Joe Kamaruddin; steadied back from a wide gate, improved into gap 600m and when angled clear, he rounded off well for close fifth.

A trial winner and race placed in December, he was purchased by David Ellis for $122,500 at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale, from the draft of Phoenix Park, and owned by Te Akau Fast Action Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

 

 

 

Heat 18 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (short neck, 1 ¾ lengths 46.8)

Ambitious Intent (3 f American Pharaoh - Latest Plan) - Opie Bosson; began well, handy three wide, and once balanced she ran on for fifth.

In training for the China Horse Club, she is by US Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneer of the Nile) from a mare by great sire Dubawi (Dubai Millennium).

 

Polly Plum (3 f Xtravagant - Herstory) - Niranjan Parmar; got back three wide, five lengths 600m, she was denied room initially in straight and ran on without being pushed.

A filly from the first crop by Xtravagant (Pentire); purchased as a yearling by David Ellis and trained by Te Akau to win the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m). By Danehill stallion Commands, the sire of Melody Belle, dam Herstory won three races to 1400 metres in Australia.

 

Heat 19 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (¾ lengths, head 46.7)

Hero Worship (3 g Xtravagant - Idol) - Opie Bosson; travelled up second and he was not pressured while finding the line in fourth.

Purchased by David Ellis at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale, he is from the first crop by record-breaking (1:33.5) 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Xtravagant (Pentire), bought as a yearling by David Ellis at Karaka, and now standing at Newhaven Park Stud (N.S.W). His dam, Idol, by Champion Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill), won over 1500 metres in Australia.

 

Prismatic (3 g Savabeel - Kaleidoscope) - Niranjan Parmar; got back third last, six lengths 600m, and he ran home okay over the sprint trip.

Bred on the same Savabeel/Pins cross as history making Karaka Millions winner and triple Group One winning stable-mate Probabeel, from the family of 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Xtravagant (Pentire). He is owned by Te Akau Prismatic Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

 

Heat 20 Maiden 3YO 800 metres

Shepherd's Delight (3 f Rip Van Winkle - Safari Sunset) - Danielle Johnson; trailed fourth inner and she remained held while quickening into second.

In training for Wentwood Grange, by the sire of dual Group One winner and former stable-mate Te Akau Shark, she is from a Volksraad mare that has left four individual winners of 16 races.

 

Ifyourample (3 f Iffraaj - More Than Adequate) - Shaun McKay; got back off outside gate, seven lengths 600m, and she worked home okay under no pressure.

Purchased by David Ellis for owner Greg Clarke, she is bred on the same Iffraaj/Generous cross as Te Akau triple Group One winner Gingernuts.

 

Heat 21 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (½ head, length 46.5)

Irish Red (3 f Burgundy - Niamh Elizabeth) - Joe Kamaruddin; travelled three wide in the open off a wide gate, she levelled turning in, and she remained held to win nicely.

Eye-catching when placed in both two-year-old starts, bred and owned by Glenn & Cathie Holmes and Te Akau Stud, and raced by them together with Paul Martin, she is the first foal from winning Per Incanto mare Niamh Elizabeth, a half-sister to stakes' winner Thrive (Colombia) - both trained by Te Akau.

 

The Perfect Pink (3 f Savabeel - The Solitaire) - Opie Bosson; travelled well fourth inner and her rider was unmoved finishing third.

In training for owner/breeder Tony Rider (Milan Park) and friends, by Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) winning Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), whose progeny have topped $100m prize money, she is from impressive stakes' winner The Solitaire (O'Reilly) (10 wins), a top family bred by the Dennis brothers.

 

Heat 22 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (1 ¼ lengths, ¾ lengths 46.7)

3 g Darci Brahma - Distinctive Lass - Opie Bosson; began well to trail third and held up behind runners he ran home comfortably for fourth.

Owned and bred by Greg Tomlinson (Nearco Stud), he is the year younger brother to stable-mate and 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Kahma Lass. By five-time Group One winner and Champion Sire Darci Brahma (Danehill), purchased as a yearling by David Ellis, his dam, Distinctive Lass (Orientate), has left four stakes' winners. It is a very good family.

 

Trieste (3 f Tivaci - Domani Oro) - Niranjan Parmar; travelled keenly fifth and holding her spot she ran home okay.

From the first crop by Group One winner Tivaci (High Chaparral), her dam Domani Oro is by the highest priced yearling ($3.6m) to ever sell at Karaka, Don Eduardo (Zabeel).

 

Leica Star (3 f Highly Recommended - Leica Glory) - Joe Kamaruddin; got back last, seven lengths distant at the 600m and, although remaining back, she ran home nicely in a quiet trial.

Owned by Te Akau Leica Star Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), she finished second to subsequent winning two-year-old stable-mate Noverre (Savabeel) when trialling in January at Matamata.

 

Heat 23 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (short head, 2 ¼ lengths 46.9)

3 g Burgundy - Precious - Troy Harris; began well to travel second and he extended well to collar the leader.

Owned by Benjamin Kwok, sire Burgundy (Redoute's Choice), purchased by David Ellis as a yearling at Karaka, is said to be the fastest racehorse Te Akau has ever trained. The three-quarter brother to five-time Group One winner and Champion Sire Darci Brahma (Danehill), Burgundy won five stakes' races and was Group One placed.

 

Medal (3 g Savabeel - Gold Rocks) - Opie Bosson; was caught three deep in fifth, and he rounded off unpressured for fourth.

In training for Waikato Stud, from Group Two winner Gold Rocks (Oratorio), he is a brother to Gold Fever, a filly that David Ellis purchased as a yearling on the Gold Coast. Gold Fever became the sixth Te Akau filly to win the Matamata Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m), finishing third in both the Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Eclipse Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m).

 

Heat 24 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (length, nose 46.4)

3 g Per Incanto - Centree - Troy Harris; was held together three wide in midfield and he sustained a good gallop for a close fourth.

Owned by Edmund Wong, he was purchased as a weanling by David Ellis for $40,000 at the 2019 Karaka May Sale, from the draft of Ardsley Farm. For Mr. Wong, Ellis also purchased dual two-year-old winner Palamos (Extreme Choice).

 

Outfit (3 f Tivaci - Costume) - Danielle Johnson; was easy off the outside gate to settle last and she tracked home comfortably for fifth.

Bred and owned by Garry Chittick, from the first crop of Waikato Stud stallion Tivaci (High Chaparral), winner of the All Aged Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) at Randwick, from dual Group One winning mare Costume (Savabeel).

 

Heat 25 Maiden 3YO 800 metres (½ a length, ½ head 46.9)

3 f Shocking - Mawaakib - Darren Danis; began well to lead and he lifted well in a tight finish for third.

Bred and owned by David Price (Price Bloodstock, Hong Kong), by Shocking (Street Cry), sire of 18 stakes' winners, she is out of an O'Reilly (Last Tycoon) mare.

 

Pisco Sour (3 f I Am Invincible - Refreshing) - Opie Bosson; positioned handily and she finished solidly for close fourth.

In training for Brent & Cherry Taylor (Trelawney Stud), by the brilliant sprinter and the Leading Sire in Australia, I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), she is out of a mare by Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Stratum (Redoute's Choice).

 

Heat 26 4YO & Up 800 metres (½ head, ¾ lengths 46.8)

4 g Iffraaj - Elusive Catch - Joe Kamaruddin; worked up third after being a stride slow to begin and he kept going boldly to grab victory on the line.

Having his first trial for Richards' Racing, he is by internationally proven sire Iffraaj (Zafonic), out of Elusive City (Elusive Quality) mare Elusive Catch, winner of four to 1400 metres, and from the family of 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner and Horse of the Year Tit for Taat (Faltaat).

 

Wychwood (4 m Rip Van Winkle - Patrimonium) - Niranjan Parmar; got back to last nearing the home turn and she rounded off okay before rolling on nicely through the line.

In training for owner/breeder Pat and the late Clyde Buckingham (Emblem Thoroughbreds), she is by the sire of Te Akau Shark, Rip Van Winkle (Galileo), from three-time winner to 1600 metres Patrimonium (Green Desert).

 

Heat 27 Open 800 metres (long neck, ½ a length 46.4)

Sophisticardo (3 g Burgundy - Glamorous Girl - below) - Niranjan Parmar; travelled three wide third and he was full of running in the straight to win well.

He won stylishly on debut before a notable fourth to stable-mate On the Bubbles (Brazen Beau) in the Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m). Purchased by David Ellis for $30,000 at the 2020 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Cambridge Stud, owned by Te Akau Glammed Up Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

 

 

 

On The Bubbles (3 c Brazen Beau - More Bubbles) - Joe Kamaruddin; got back last, six lengths at the 600m, he circled widest and powered up for second.

He completed a hat-trick in the $1m Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m), giving Te Akau its fifth consecutive win in the race, and ended his two-year-old season winning the Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m), the fourth in a row for Te Akau. Purchased by David Ellis in January at the 2020 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Leanach Lodge for $90,000, he is owned by Te Akau Splash Of Dom Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

 

Synchronize (3 f Savabeel - Splits) - Danielle Johnson; steadied fifth and she ran home nicely on the bridle for fourth.

She was unbeaten in three trials before being untroubled to win the NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden 2YO 1050 metres on 31 March at Matamata. Owned by the Te Akau Flexibeel Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), purchased by David Ellis at the 2020 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Waikato Stud.

 

I Wish I Win (3 g Savabeel - Make A Wish - below) - Troy Harris; got back second last and he ran home under his own steam for fifth.

Bred and owned by Waikato Stud, he was 18thof 21 two-year-old wins for the stable last season, and finished second to stable-mate On the Bubbles (Brazen Beau) in the Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m), at just his second start.

 

 

 

Noverre (3 c Savabeel - Magic Dancer) - Opie Bosson; began well to travel outside the leader and he was not asked for much in a quiet trial.

He duly delivered second-up over 1200 metres in February at Wanganui, a purchase by David Ellis in January at the 2020 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Waikato Stud.  He is owned by Te Akau 2020 Breeding Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

 

Heat 28 Open 800 metres (short neck, long neck 46.1)

Pazienza (4 m Written Tycoon - Gypsy Chimes) - Craig Grylls; began well to travel outside the leader and she sustained her run to win nicely.

In training for Cambridge Stud owners Brendan Lindsay MNZM & Jo Lindsay, she was an impressive winner on debut as a two-year-old and strong again in April when scoring over 1200 metres.

 

Need I Say More (4 g No Nay Never - Bo Bardi - below) - Opie Bosson; began well to dictate the pace and he was never off the bridle finishing close second.

The winner of seven (six stakes' wins) from nine starts, he was purchased by David Ellis for $130,000, from the draft of Kilgravin Lodge, at the 2019 Karaka Book 1 Sale, and owned by the Te Akau Never Say Die Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

 

 

 

Secret Amour (5 m Niagara - My Secret) - Joe Kamaruddin; positioned midfield and she worked home strongly on the bridle for third.

Owned by Scott Goodwin, by successful sire Niagara (Encosta De Lago), she has won three, and recorded three seconds, from just eight starts.

Aromatic (5 m Sacred Falls - Vickezzchardonnay - below) - Danielle Johnson; trailed from a handy draw and she was held together while finishing close up.

She has registered three wins and four seconds from eight starts. Owned by Te Akau Sacred Wine Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), she was purchased by David Ellis for $160,000 at the 2018 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Milan Park.

 

 

 

Mai Tai (5 m Atlante - Tropical Punch) - Troy Harris; steadied back last, five lengths 600m, and she had more to offer while remaining held together.

The winner of five from 10 for the Hawkins' family at Wentwood Grange, she ended her previous campaign after winning the Anzac Mile (Listed, 1550m) on Anzac Day (25 April) at Awapuni.

Vamos Bebe (5 m I Am Invincible - Hurtle Myrtle) - Danielle Johnson; began well to lead, travelled boldly, and she never flinched in holding her advantage to the line.

She has registered two wins and three seconds from six starts. Richly bred, by Champion Australian Sire from Group One winner Hurtle Myrtle (Dane Shadow), owned by Brent & Cherry Taylor (Trelawney Stud).

 

Brando (4 h Savabeel - Saoirse) - Opie Bosson; travelled held outside the leader and he remained on terms for close second.

A stakes' winner and Group One placed, he was purchased by David Ellis at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run, owned by the Te Akau R2R Colt Breeding Syndicate. He was bred and sold by Fairdale Stud, from whom Ellis purchased $1m Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) and Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Cool Aza  Beel (Savabeel).

 

Savy Yong Blonk (6 m Savabeel - Ampin) - Niranjan Parmar; got back last, five lengths 600m, and she produced an eye-catching gallop widest in the straight for third.

Bred and owned by Bill & Margaret Gartshore and Jim & Susan Gartshore, a dual Group Three winner and Group Two placed, she has won seven races and nearly $340,000 in prize money.

 

Markus Aurelius (5 g Ghibellines - Evancho - below) - Joe Kamaruddin; trailed handily on the inner from barrier one and he kept up a strong gallop on the rail for fourth.

The winner of six of 12, including a hat-trick earlier this year, owned by Te Akau Great Southern Man Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn-Fenton Ellis), he was purchased by David Ellis for $13,000 at the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock South Island Sale, from the draft of White Robe Lodge.

 

 

 

Phantom Witness (5 g Star Witness - Fandom) - Troy Harris; was easy off the gate, on the bridle four lengths art the 600m, he was presented wide at the turn and made ground under his own steam to finish close up.

The winner of two, two seconds, from six starts, and never further back than fourth, he was purchased by David Ellis for $60,000 at the 2018 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale, from the draft of Lyndhurst Farm.  He is owned by the Te Akau Phantom Witness Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

 

Miss Mayfield (5 m Deep Field - Lorna May) - Sam Weatherley; began well from the outside, three wide midfield, and she rounded off solidly to finish close up.

Having her first outing for owners Mapperley Stud and Windsor Park Stud, she had registered two wins and two seconds to 1200 metres from six starts in Australia.
