Te Akau Cambridge Trials' Review

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday March 24 at Cambridge.

The footing was rated Dead6, with the rail out three metres.

Heat 2 2YO 650 metres (4 lengths, head 41.03)
2 f Encosta De Lago - Chasing Mammon - Cameron Lammas; was tardily away to settle second last but ran on particularly well to finish second.

Heat 3 2YO 650 metres (2 ½ lengths, ½ a length 41.3)
2 g Postponed - Promissory - Cameron Lammas; displayed both good natural gate and running speed to sit outside the leader, travelled comfortably, and stuck on well for second.

Heat 6 2YO 800 metres (neck, 1 ½ lengths 47.3)
2 g Sakhee's Secret - Spin ‘N Grin - Cameron Lammas; sat fourth on the inner and lost a bit of ground with the slow going cutting out on the fence, rallying in the straight for fifth.

Heat 10 Maiden 800 metres (½ a length, 1 ¼ lengths 46.2)
Giana (3 f Darci Brahma - Tristraad) - Rafael Schistl; jumped away in fourth or fifth before sliding forward to share the pace on the inner and as the field worked off the rail turning in she fought on well for second.

Heat 13 2YO 950 metres (1 ¼ lengths, ½ a length 58.1)
Esprit De Corps (2 g Bel Esprit - Vercors) - Cameron Lammas; found his feet in midfield and ran on nicely in tight quarters through the straight.

Heat 14 2YO 950 metres (neck, 1 ¾ lengths 57.8)
2 f Lookin at Lucky - Highland Lights - Cameron Lammas; met a check soon after the start that saw her get back in the field, but ran home solidly in tight quarters for a close up fifth.

Heat 15 2YO 950 metres (2 ¼ lengths, 1 length 58.3)
Ebony Star (2 f Bachelor Duke - Keepa Cruisin) - Cameron Lammas; was tractable settling one off in midfield but was tripped up on slower going in the straight.

Heat 16 Open 950 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 2 ¼ lengths 57.3)
Madame Jamai (3 f Minstrel Court - Palais Jamai) - Ed Zac-Syed; worked across easily from a wide barrier to settle one off in fourth and with a nice split on straightening she ran on well for third, under her own steam.

Heat 17 Open 950 metres (1 ¾ lengths, head 57.6)
Rapid Gain (5 g Flying Spur - Occasional Gain) - Ed Zac-Syed; missed the kick by a substantial margin and followed the body of the field around.

Heat 19 Open 950 metres (2 ½ lengths, 1 length 57.5)
Is This Love (3 f O'Reilly - One Love) - Rafael Schistl; was eased off a wide gate, circled up nicely into midfield and ran on well under her own steam for fourth, behind group two performer Addictive Habit.

Heat 23 Maiden 950 metres (head, 1 ¼ lengths 58.4)
Shillelagh (3 f Savabeel - Trocair) - Cameron Lammas; travelled beautifully on the bridle in fourth and under her own steam was beaten a bob of the head, finishing second.

Heat 25 Open 1200 metres (2 ¾ lengths, 2 ¼ lengths 1:13.0)
Highly Likely (4 g High Chaparral - Starrinka) - Ed Zac-Syed; settled at the rear and ran on into midfield - a tidy trial for a staying horse.

Heat 30 Maiden 1400 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 2 ½ lengths 1:30.3)
4 g Ekraar - Cape Win - Daniel Miller; jumped away well to share the lead early, ambling along at a moderate tempo and although left flat-footed when the sprint when on he kept grinding away in good fashion as a staying/jumping prospect.
