Te Akau Casterton Sunday Preview
17 May, 2025
Te Akau Racing has three horses entered on Sunday 18 May at Casterton (Victoria).
Casterton:
Weather: overcast, track: Soft5, rail: true. Showers forecast Saturday, no rain Sunday.
1:50 p.m. (NZ) ~ 11:50 a.m. (Vic) R1 2 Dreamflight (6 g Frankel – Dream Peace) – Jordan Hart (a3); he pushed on to finish fifth when making his jumps’ debut in the Maiden Hurdle (3200m) on 29 April at Warrnambool, and contests the A$35,000 bet365 Maiden Hurdle (3500m). A Group Three and Listed winner over 1600 metres in France, before transferring to Australia, he will have weight relief to 66.5kg, and will be looking to further improve on his solid first-up jumps’ outing. NZ TAB fixed odds: $23.00 & $4.20.
4:30 p.m. (NZ) ~ 2:30 p.m. (Vic) R5 1 Prismatic (6 g Savabeel – Kaleidoscope) – Will Gordon; he was ridden patiently before being put into contention with a good effort for second in the BM120 Steeplechase (3450m) on 30 April at Warrnambool, also with Gordon aboard, and contests the A$80,000 Ecycles Two Rivers Steeplechase (3800m). He brings a very good jumps’ record to this contest, and rates a top three chance if appreciative of the extra distance - one of two lining up for the team. NZ TAB fixed odds: $2.10 & $1.10.
4:30 p.m. (NZ) ~ 2:30 p.m. R5 2 The Mighty Spar (7 g Savabeel – O’Dianne) – Steven Pateman; he raced handily and rallied well for seventh in the Brierley Steeplechase (3450m) on 29 April at Warrnambool. Contesting a somewhat softer assignment in the $A80,000 Ecycles Two Rivers Steeplechase, he is the winner of three jumps’ races, including a smart 5.5 length victory on this course/distance and he is set to give this field a shake. NZ TAB fixed odds: $2.80 & $1.15.
