Te Akau Ellerslie Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has three horses entered for the six-race twilight programme on Wednesday Dec. 12 at Ellerslie.

As on Tuesday Dec. 10 the conditions were: overcast and Dead4, rail out 12 metres.

5:35pm R2 1 1:20pm R2 3 Rapid Gain (4 g Flying Spur - Occasional Gain) - Matt Cameron; has been freshened-up to resume off a 114-day break from barrier eleven in the Benchmark 65 1200 metres. Following a fresh-up second on July 31 at Rotorua, he showed a good turn of foot when coming from eighth under rider Opie Bosson to beat a handy field, over 1300 metres on dead ground, in August at Taupo. Up in grade for the first time, he has what it takes to measure up.

7:15pm R5 4 Urban Angel (5 m Savabeel - Tutuland) - Matt Cameron; received a lovely track into the race and closed late for second to Sacred Star (Flying Spur) in the Benchmark 75 1600 metres on premier day, Nov. 23, at Pukekohe, and drew beautifully in barrier four for the corresponding event. She impressed winning on this course in December last year and given the strength of her last three placed performances she appears a top chance in this field - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

7:15pm R5 5 Secret Whisper (5 g Align - Danewhisper) - Derek Nolan; missed the Benchmark 75 2000 metres last Thursday with the cancellation of the meeting at New Plymouth, dropping back to a mile here. Ridden quietly from a wide draw, he has trained very well in recent times and finished second here to Innovation (Keeper) over the same distance at his only previous course attempt.
