Te Akau Ellerslie Saturday Preview
20 April, 2019
Te Akau New Zealand has two horses racing on Saturday 20 April at Ellerslie.
As on race morning the conditions were: fine and Good3, rail true. No rain forecast.
4.10 p.m. R7 4 Kingsguard (6 g Rip Van Winkle - Her Royal Highness) - Matt Cameron; resumed with a win in the Electrolux Sprint (1200m) here on 30 March, and although finishing rearward he worked through the line okay last Sunday in the Open 1400 metres at Te Rapa. The winner of five races, including the Hawkesbury Cup (Gr. 3, 1600m) and stakes of $457,000 in Australia, he boasts a win and placed three times from six starts on the course. With the addition of visor blinkers he seems capable of a solid performance in the $100,000 Monaco Easter Handicap (Gr. 2, 1600m). Fixed odds: $35.00 & $8.50.
4.10 p.m. R7 15 Mongolianconqueror (4 g Ocean Park - Queen Rania) - Craig Grylls; resumed running the fastest final 600m (33.3) when finishing strongly into third on 6 April in the Open 1400 metres at Te Aroha, and contests the $100,000 Monaco Easter Handicap (Gr. 2, 1600m). A big improver throughout his three-year-old season: beaten here by a nose in the New Zealand Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m) and 3.2 lengths in the Rosehill Guineas (Gr. 1, 2000m), he should go well from barrier seven. Fixed odds: $10.00 & $3.30.
