Te Akau Ellerslie Saturday Preview

Date: 7 Dec 2019

Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Saturday 7 December at Ellerslie (twilight meeting).

Weather: overcast, track: Dead5, rail: out 6 metres. Showers forecast.

3.24 p.m. R2 1 Savy Yong Blonk  (4 m Savabeel - Ampin) - Troy Harris; found a handy spot before being blocked every which way and finishing fourth in the Rating 72 2100 metres on 16 November at Tauranga, and contests the $30,000 Rating 72 2100 metres. Third in the Sunline Vase (Gr. 3, 2100m) here last season, she carries equal top weight (59kgs) but ideally drawn (4) to prove a factor. Fixed odds: $3.80 & $1.30.

6.30 p.m. R7 4 Prise De Fer (4 g Savabeel - Foiled) - Troy Harris; made it back-to-back wins carrying top weight (60kgs) to victory in the Rating 72 1600 metres on 2 November at Pukekohe. Given time (35 days), he meets a solid field in the $35,000 Rating 82 1500 metres but ideally drawn (4) to rate a top three chance. He had course form last season in the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (Listed, 1600m) and NZ Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m). Fixed odds: $4.40 & $1.85.

7.10 p.m. R8 3 Mongolianconqueror  (5 g Ocean Park - Queen Rania) - Chelsea Burdan (a3); closed strongly against a smart field when resuming here in the Open 1400 metres on 26 October, before finishing sixth in the Open 1500 metres on 14 November at Awapuni. Beaten a nose in the New Zealand Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m), he receives weight relief to 57.5kgs and should appreciate stepping up in the $35,000 Rating 82 2200 metres. Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.45.

7.10 p.m. R8 6 Swing Note  (5 m Encosta De Lago - Andallthatjazz) - Troy Harris; found the line resuming over a mile and not disgraced when positions changed little in the Rating 82 2100 metres on 15 November at Ruakaka. Third-up in the $35,000 Rating 82 2200 metres, she won the Spring Classic (Listed, 2000m) last season at Riccarton, and ideally drawn (3) to register an improved performance. Fixed odds: $23.00 & $4.80.
