12.07 p.m. R2 1 Lightning Field (4 g Deep Field - Claudine) - Joe Kamaruddin (a3); ran the fastest last 600m (34.6) for second in the Maiden 1400 metres on 5 May at Ruakaka, and contests the $10,000 Maiden 1300 metres. Deserved of a win, with five seconds from his last eight starts, he receives weight relief to 55.5kg, ideally drawn (3), and rates a top three chance if appreciative of the course at his first attempt. Fixed odds: $2.30 & $1.30.

2.27 p.m. R6 6 Burgundy Rose (4 m Burgundy - Paraiba) - Niranjan Parmar (a4); freshened in March and untroubled to win when trialling on 11 May at Avondale, where she sprang out to lead easily, travelled fluently, and found plenty with the Te Akau apprentice aboard -now having his first race day ride. Carrying 50kg in the $32,500 Open 1100 metres, she acts fresh, won two from three at distance, and should go well if appreciative of the course at her first attempt. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.
