Te Akau Friday Update

I am still very excited with the way that most of our horses performed last weekend in Singapore.  I can see plenty of winners coming out of last weekend for the stable as the season continues.

Sebrose has been a huge success since we sent him to race in Singapore and I think he is going to be a genuine Group 1 Singapore Derby contender in July.  We bought this horse for $230,000 at the June Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.  We are currently making arrangements to attend this sale which is a fun week (for the lads - Ed!) on the Gold Coast. Looking through the catalogue, I think we will have a decent sized short list and we can't wait to see the yearlings, we will be inspecting all on our short list and some extras as well.

We are nearly in June now but the grass (!) is still really growing very quickly and the cattle have all got more grass than they can eat - ideal position really.

Yesterday we had some owners in our 2015 Te Akau Breeding Syndicate join us at the farm to see their trio of yearlings have a hit out with our breaking team.  James Jackson rode all three and they each worked beautifully - the Fastnet Rock colt out of Myrrh, the Snitzel colt out of Mini Tales and the Fastnet Rock filly from Champion 2YO Il Quello Veloce. These are three of the very best sorts of young racehorses in the making you could imagine.  After watching them work, we went inside to toast their future success.

I am really looking forward to next week with Mark Walker coming home and then we fly to the Gold Coast on Saturday.

This week we have another group of five weanlings that have come in to be boxed (main picture).    We take these youngsters for a good walk each day, box them at night and then drench them, trim their feet and put them back out in the paddock and on Monday bring another group in - this is all part of their learning curve.

Some other good news this week is on the horse that I bought in France at the Deauville Sale as a yearling.  He was third on debut and then finished second last weekend in Ireland.  So a win looks close.  He is by Fastnet Rock out of Magnolia Lane and cost 70,000 euros.

Have a great week.
