Te Akau Friday Update

David Ellis writes:

I can't begin to tell you how excited we all are at Te Akau Stud!

We have just bought the best group of young horses I have ever seen at Te Akau Stud.

This morning Mark Walker and I went around the farm together and inspected every yearling that we have bought and Mark turned to me at the end of our inspections and said simply "this is easiest the best group of yearlings ever".

Actually as I left the sale yesterday, a very good judge came up to me and said he had been attending Karaka since its opening in 1988 and he said to me: "David I have never seen one person buy so many outstanding yearlings in all my time". So yes it is exciting, very exciting actually!

The amazing thing is that shares in our yearlings are selling at record speed.  I would say that 80% of our Karaka yearlings are all sold - it is exhilarating to see how many people (both new and existing owners) want to be involved with Te Akau this year.

If you would like to be involved in taking a small share and join a really positive, successful and friendly team then please call me on 07 825 4701.  Karyn and I are home all weekend working so you can call us on 07 825 4701 at any time - or email Karyn - [email protected].

We still have shares available in super young horses - here is just one example -

Lot 125 is an O'Reilly colt that I bought from the draft of Sir Patrick Hogan's Cambridge Stud for just $110,000 plus GST.  To start with I just love his pedigree - he is out of a Zabeel mare called Tuesday's Child (and yes he is full of grace!!) who herself is out of a Danehill mare who is out of a Nijinsky mare.  This is the same famous cross as Silent Achiever and it is the same family as the great Redoute's Choice.

My comments on this colt when I first inspected him were:

"Really strong, athletic colt, good muscle, nice deep girth, looks like a racehorse - classy individual."

This is a colt that should make a two year old and one that would train on to be a classic type of three year old, contesting races like the Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas - a race Te Akau has won five times.  He could well be in the $1 million Karaka Million next season and of course looks ideal for the $1 million Karaka Mile as a three year old.  Remember that both of these races are restricted to horses purchased from the Karaka Sale.

I was prepared to pay up to $200,000 for this colt and I bought him for just $110,000 - probably the buy of the sale!  If you would like to be involved in this colt, we can tailor any size share to work for you - please call me at Te Akau Stud now!

The farm looks amazing with plenty of beautiful, lush grass for our new yearlings and even better news is that cattle prices are on the upward move.

We have a great team of horses racing this weekend at three venues in New Zealand (Matamata, Trentham and Ashburton) and in Singapore where Mark has a big team lining up.  GO THE TANGERINE!

Finally - the sales this week can only be described as a huge success!  Well done to the breeders and to New Zealand Bloodstock - you are a great company that New Zealand as a country can be truly proud of.  Te Akau has so far purchased 20 yearlings from a large number of different studs and farms.
