This morning the Te Akau Stud team was very excited as the Majestic float arrived with the horses that we bought at the Ready To Run sale this week. They are all now happy and settled out in their new, lush paddocks. I can't remember seeing a better line up of Ready to Run graduates at Te Akau Stud.
It was an interesting sale: some great buying on the first day, but the sale really heated up on the second day where the prices rose significantly.
Early in the sale is always a great time to strike and Lot 8 is probably one of the best Darci Brahma's I've seen, just a magnificent horse. He breezed up at Te Rapa like he was a Group One horse in the making.
Mark Walker and I thought he was probably the best horse we have seen at a Ready To Run sale for a very long time. His breeze up time was one of the fastest, but what impressed me was the way in which he handled everything, his physicality and his beautiful action - just top class. After he arrived at Te Akau Stud, he ate his breakfast in full in 30 minutes - a great sign of a horse really thriving.
Another horse that really took my eye was Lot 164, an El Roca colt out of Mandeville. What a great pedigree this colt has, being the same family as Black Caviar and the exciting stallion All Too Hard. His breeze up was a stand-out and I was determined to purchase him.
If you are interested in either of the above two horses, please feel free to ring me direct anytime on 021 925 151 or email Karyn at [email protected]. You will be made to feel very welcome and they are two horses we are sure you will have a lot of fun with.
Both of our teams are firing on all cylinders - we are massively proud of the results we are achieving for our owners: here is the latest NZ Trainers' Premiership as of today:
Premierships are based on performances during each racing season (August 1st - July 31st). The jockey and trainer with the most wins at the end of the season are the Premiership winners.

In other news, while the rain we have had this week is amazing for the farm, it's a nightmare for the racehorses. We finished all the haylage making and have 600 big bales stacked around the farm.
We sent our first lot of fat lambs away yesterday and they killed out at 16.7 kg. A high percentage of them were twins, so 16.7 kg is a pretty good weight. They were all from our five year old ewes.
We are still sending two units of steers each week and our unit yesterday killed out at 384 kg - great weights which I am very proud of.
Best of luck to all our owners with runners this weekend - Mark and our team is on fire in New Zealand. Donna and our team likewise in Singapore and special good wishes to our two runners in the $1 million Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup!
