Te Akau Hastings Midweek Preview
11 December, 2019
Te Akau New Zealand has six horses racing on Wednesday 11 December at Hastings (twilight meeting).
Weather: fine, track: Dead5, rail: out 6 metres. No rain forecast.
4.09 p.m. R3 4 Byzantine (4 g Savabeel - Baradevi) - Danielle Johnson; continued good form with a strong finish for second in the Rating 72 1100 metres on 27 November at Rotorua, and contests the $11,000 Rating 72 1200 metres. He was denied a run in the corresponding event here two starts ago (10 November) and rates a top three chance.
4.44 p.m. R4 6 Spirit of Galway (4 m Rip Van Winkle - Galway) - Danielle
Johnson; had a quiet trial outing on 26 November at Cambridge, and resumes in
the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Consistent recording two seconds, three thirds,
and a fourth from seven starts, and unlucky not to have won, she can act fresh
and capable of another bold performance.
5.19 p.m. R5 10 Combat Queen (3 f Pierro - Missy
Cummings) - Danielle Johnson; ran good time (34.7) when finishing fifth on debut
over 1200 metres on 6 November at Avondale, and fifth again in the Maiden 3YO
1400 metres on 22 November at New Plymouth. She gets a chance to improve
further in the $10,000 Maiden 1600 metres.
5.54 p.m. R6 6 Oceans Eight (4 m Ocean Park - Ruud Van
Slaats) - Danielle Johnson; made plenty of ground for fourth on debut and
denied room in each of her two starts since. She has drawn out (10) in the
$10,000 Maiden 1300 metres, but could break through if things go her way.
6.29 p.m. R7 6 Lucky Shark (3 g Darci Brahma -
Shamardal Luck) - Danielle Johnson; finished off the pace behind subsequent
2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) runner-up Harlech (Darci Brahma) on debut over 1200
metres in September at Matamata. Given time (84 days), he won emphatically when
trialling on 26 November at Cambridge, with blinkers on, and the athleticism to
prove competitive fresh-up in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres.
7.05 p.m. R8 2 You're Welcome (4 g Camelot - Chorus of
Angels) - Danielle Johnson; worked home for fourth to subsequent winner Mumms
Jewel (Super Easy) when resuming in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 15 November at
Ruakaka, and contests the $10,000 Rating 65 1400 metres. Stepping up in
distance should suit and he rates an each way chance.
