Te Akau Hastings Midweek Preview
29 January, 2020
Te Akau New Zealand has six horses racing on Wednesday 29 January at Hastings.
Weather: fine, track: Dead4, rail: out 4 metres.
2.02 p.m. R3 10 Crystal Bellini (3 f Ghibellines - Megagem) - Samantha Collett; was good through the line on debut in the Maiden 1200 metres on 29 December at New Plymouth, before finishing off the pace at Te Rapa, and looking for improvement with blinkers on in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $34.00 & $5.50.
2.02 p.m. R3 11 When In Paris (3 f Pierro - Bulle De Champagne) - Lynsey Satherley; not asked for too much when finishing fifth at the trials on 6 January at Cambridge, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres. Bred for more distance but the trip away and race looks a good starting point. Fixed odds: $23.00 & $5.40.
2.37 p.m. R4 7 Baby Shark (3 g Rip Van Winkle - Bak Da Chief) - Michael McNab; circled from last finishing solidly into third when trialling on 14 January at Matamata, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. A brother to stable-mate and cracking racehorse Te Akau Shark, he is bred to go further but ideally drawn (3) to race well first-up. Fixed odds: $9.50 & $2.00.
2.37 p.m. R4 8 Enduring Love (4 m Camelot - Holy Moly) - Rosie Myers; continued solid form when finishing fourth in the Maiden 1400 metres on 19 January at Te Rapa, and contests the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. She has placed five from eight at the distance and has the addition of visor blinkers. Fixed odds: $23.00 & $3.00.
2.37 p.m. R4 9 Irish Heart (4 m O'Reilly - Rehab) - Danielle Johnson; had a quiet trial on 16 December at Te Aroha, and resumed with a notable effort for second in the Maiden 1200 metres on 9 January at Wanganui. Having recorded two seconds, third, and fourth, from four starts, she is perfectly drawn (1) to race well again. Fixed odds: $3.90 & $1.20.
3.49 p.m. R6 2 Red Jakkal (4 g Jakkalberry - Red Alert) - Michael McNab; had a quiet trial on 16 December but never fired fresh-up on 3 January in Rating 65 1200 metres, both at Te Aroha. He won over 1215 metres in March at Rotorua, running the fastest last 600m (33.8), has a tongue tie on and capable of an improved showing in the $10,000 Rating 65 1300 metres. Fixed odds: $9.00 & $2.50.
