Te Akau Hastings Preview
1 February, 2017
Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Wednesday 1 February at Hastings.
As on race morning the conditions were: fine and Good3, rail out 3 metres. No rain forecast.
2.52 p.m. R4 2 More Than Fast (4 g Fastnet Rock - Morgalicious) - Opie Bosson; makes his debut from barrier one in the Maiden 1200 metres. Trialled over 935 metres on 10 January at Cambridge, with Bosson aboard, he began well to secure cover in fourth and quickened under minimal urging for third. His first two dams raced well fresh, winning over sprint trips, and he should be able to utilize the inside draw.
3.27 p.m. R5 5 Smoke House Bay (4 m Eighth Wonder - Makesmewonder) - Opie Bosson; resumes off 202 days in the Rating 65 1200 metres, with a tongue tie on, from barrier four. In a recent trial at Cambridge, over 935 metres, she improved between runners from the rear and kept up a solid gallop for third. A winner over 1400 metres on debut, she is a relative newcomer to the stables who has already displayed ability and a type to continue improving over ground.
4.07 p.m. R6 7 Abloom (3 f Darci Brahma - Corsage) - Opie Bosson; was denied room early in the straight, off the trail, before racing into second over 1200 metres on 12 January at Wanganui, after a notable second up performance for third in the Maiden 3YO 1215 metres on 27 December at Rotorua. Drawn the ace in the Maiden 3YO 1300 metres, she is knocking on the door and receives a good opportunity.
4.42 p.m. R7 3 King Kane (3 g Showcasing - Vannista Belle) - Opie Bosson; never got into the contest on 20 January in the Rating 65 1600 metres at Tauranga, and has blinkers on stepping up in distance for the Rating 65 2000 metres. He displayed good attributes winning here over a mile in November and certainly has the ability to be competitive in what is a handy field.
