Te Akau Hastings Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the eight-race programme on Sunday November 9 at Hastings.

As on Saturday Nov. 8 the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail out 5 metres.

3.30 p.m. R5 8 Scandinavian (3 g Dylan Thomas - Blanche Amelia) - Hayden Tinsley; steps up in distance to contest the Maiden 1600 metres from barrier four, having finished eighth when debuting at his previous start on Oct. 22 in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres at Te Aroha. He is a staying type in the making and should be appreciative of the extra distance.

4.42 p.m. R7 1 Maestro (4 g Encosta De Lago - Miss Scarlatti) - Hayden Tinsley; resumes off a break of 220-days in the Maiden 1400 metres. In the second of two trials this time in, he went through the line solidly for third over 1200 metres at Cambridge. He has finished second in each of his two starts to date, both over 1400 metres with this rider engaged, and while destined to get over more ground he is a genuine performer. His dam, Miss Scarlatti (Stravinsky), was one of the best three-year-old staying fillies of her time in Victoria, and in turn her dam, Crimson (Zabeel), was Third top filly on the NZ Free Handicaps as a 3YO. His half-sister by Fastnet Rock (Danehill) sold for $700,000 this year at Karaka, and he is closely related to Abidewithme (Redoute's Choice) who has won six races for Te Akau trainer Jason Bridgman.
