Te Akau Hastings Sunday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has five horses racing on Sunday 8 November during the Waipukurau Racing Club meeting at Hastings.

Weather: fine, track: Dead4, rail: out 6 metres. Occasional showers forecast.

1.00 p.m. R2 3 Military Step (5 g Tavistock - Marching On) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); closed solidly for sixth when resuming in the Rating 65 1300 metres on 30 September at Tauranga, and late clear for fourth in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 23 October at New Plymouth. Lightly raced and an easy winner over 1600 metres, he rates a top three chance in the $10,000 Rating 65 1600 metres.

3.53 p.m. R7 3 Lilikoi (4 m Charm Spirit - Barbadine) - Ryan Elliot; proved too good winning the Eulogy Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m), finished third in the Royal Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m) and spelled in March after the Wellington Guineas (Gr. 2, 1400m). She quickened before winning under a hold at the trials on 27 October at Taupo, acts fresh, and should prove very competitive in the $11,000 Rating 74 1200 metres.

3.53 p.m. R7 5 Willpower (5 g Power - The Lady) - Samantha Collett; made ground working through the line when trialling on 27 October at Taupo, and resumes in the $11,000 Rating 74 1200 metres. He won fresh-up over 1200 metres in December, consistent performer, and capable of a bold first-up performance.

3.53 p.m. R7 7 Top Brass (5 g Epaulette - Highlight) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); was not asked for much when strong holding second at the trials on 27 October at Taupo, and resumes off 29-days in the $11,000 Rating 74 1200 metres. He won two from three in his first campaign, has weight relief to 54.5kgs and rates a top three chance from barrier four.

5.03 p.m. R9 1 Enrichment (4 g Rock ‘N' Pop - Enhance) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); showed grit winning a Maiden 3YO 1200 metres in December at Pukekohe, and included an unlucky third here among two subsequent placed performances before spelling. He was competitive in tight-quarters when trialling on 27 October at Taupo, has weight relief to 57kgs and should go well fresh-up in the $10,000 Rating 65 1400 metres with luck from an awkward draw (9).
