Te Akau Ipswich Preview
1 May, 2017
Te Akau New Zealand has one horse racing on Monday 1 May at Ipswich, Queensland.
As on race morning the conditions were: fine and Good4, rail out 1 metre entire course. No rain forecast.
6.45 p.m. (NZ time) R9 11 Shocking Luck (3 g Shocking - Shamardal Luck) - Opie Bosson; produced an ideal trial over 1200 metres on 11 April at Avondale, running home solidly for fourth under Bosson without coming off the bridle, and resumes from barrier seven in the $20,000 Class 3 Plate 1500 metres. He looked a staying horse of promise when beating a reasonable field by 2 ½ lengths in December at Matamata, and subsequently put aside after running a bottler for second in the Darci Brahma Waikato Guineas (Gr. 2, 2000m) with a Queensland Carnival campaign in mind.
Racenet race analysis: SHOCKING LUCK is resuming after being gelded. He is promising and placed in a Group 2 in NZ over 2000m last start. He might want longer but has a class edge on these and should be running on for Opie Bosson. $1.60
“Shocking Luck was sold to a client of Te Akau Racing in Hong Kong, Dr. Phillip Mak, after proving up to our best three-year-old staying horses in the Waikato Guineas and the goal for him will be the Queensland Derby,†said Te Akau principal David Ellis.
The $600,000 Queensland Derby (Gr.1, 2400m) is on 10 June at Eagle Farm, Brisbane.
