"Te Akau Lockdown Love"

Welcome to our new daily feature - as our world around us changes indelibly, we want to bring some smiles and sunshine every day - yes a small distraction but it does everyone good to be able to smile when times are tough.

Every day for the four week New Zealand lockdown, we will feature "Te Akau Lockdown Love" - our own amateur photographic efforts here at Te Akau Stud as we look after our farm-full of our beloved horses - some names you will know, others as yet unnamed, some are names of the future ...

Our first "Te Akau Lockdown Love" however features two names of the past - Gingernuts #jerrylove and his best friend forever, fellow Te Akau Stud resident Scrutinize, another talented galloper retired due to injury ... as was observantly pointed out by Australian jockey Tommy Berry, they are wisely practising social-distancing!

Gingernuts was the winner of three Group 1 races - including the $1 million NZ Derby and Rosehill Guineas in Sydney. His near life-ending injury at Flemington has been well told - so it's a joy for us to see him every day.

Scrutinize won three of his 13 starts and was runner up in the Group 2 Hawkes Bay Guineas. By Savabeel from the wonderful dual Group 1 winning mare Legs - he and Gingernuts love life at the farm, are besotted with each other and take turns tutoring the weanlings and accompanying the yearlings.
