"Te Akau Lockdown Love"

Date: 30 Mar 2020

Welcome to Day 2 of our new daily feature - as our world around us changes indelibly, we want to bring some smiles and sunshine every day - yes a small distraction but it does everyone good to be able to smile when times are tough.

We loved this main shot of Rakuten (3g Savabeel - Millililli) that we snapped as the first of our floats arrived home to Te Akau Stud from our stable.

Obviously Rakuten - who we know as "George" )yes named after George Chittick) - had his nose out ready to head to his lush, green pasture.

There's no question that each of our horses really knows when they arrive at the farm - holiday central!!

Rakuten has recorded a second, three thirds, and a fourth from each of his starts, and most recently produced a notable effort for third in the Maiden 1200 metres on 12 February at Te Aroha.

Having run 34s (last 600m) in each of his three prior starts this season, he followed suit with a final 600m in 33.5 on a day when only subsequent winner Terracotta (Redwood) went quicker (33.2). It takes a good horse to run those sorts of times, no matter the distance, and given both his solid trials and race form a win for Rakuten appears on the cards as he continues to strengthen.

Although from an unraced mare, his grand-dam is impressive winning race mare Scarlet Runner, a daughter of 2000 Guineas winner and renowned sire Kingdom Bay. Millililli is a half-sister to Singapore Champion 2YO Colt, 3YO Miler, and Stayer, now stallion, Onceuponatime (Van Nistelrooy), and Rakuten is by our five-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel).

David purchased Rakuten from the NZB Ready to Run Sale - that's him below at sale time ...
