"Te Akau Lockdown Love"
27 April, 2020
Welcome to Day 23 of our feature - as our world around us changes indelibly, we want to bring some smiles and sunshine every day - yes a small distraction but it does everyone good to be able to smile when times are tough.
What does 'ladylike' mean? By definition, it can be described as "behaviour that seems appropriate for a polite, civilised girl or woman".
At the turn of the century - a "Lady" was a woman who "knows how to conduct herself in public and in a crisis, and acts with grace and dignity. She is kind, courteous and considerate without being weak or a doormat. She is well read and the perfect conversationalist. She's sensitive and able to empathise with others, and always respects the feelings of others".
Meet one of Te Akau's real "ladies" - by name and by nature - our Savabeel filly out of Lady Tatia - lovingly known as "Koko".
She's the one on the left - probably not wanting to face our (amateur) camerawoman because she knows she is almost the last filly to sell - yes there are still two shares available in her.
She simply cannot understand why she didn't win the popularity contest - why others sold before her. To be honest, it has made her a little forlorn - the 'forgotten' one. We try to cheer her up by telling her that there are still two shares in our Savabeel/Baby Shacks filly too, but it doesn't seem to matter.
"Koko" did manage a smile though when we told her that our star mare Avantage was also 'the forlorn filly' - four Group 1's, the Karaka Million and Champion 2YO success - no-one forgets her now!
So as you can see below she's happy and relaxed, and is breaking in fabulously - and as she has her sweet 'paddock' dreams we are sure she knows this fact - she may be amongst 'the last', but she's certainly not 'the least' and she sure is 'much loved'!

Our 1 f Savabeel - Lady Tatia was purchased by David Ellis in January at the 2020 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Waikato Stud.
A night before the Karaka Sales, five-time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), a Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) winning three-year-old, sired both the Te Akau trained Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) winner Cool Aza Beel and $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (Restricted, Listed 1600m) winner Probabeel.
Savabeel currently sits on 1999 winners, with 176 stakes' winners including 35 Group Ones.
Her dam sire, Duke of Marmalade (Danehill), was a Group One winner up to 2400 metres, from an excellent family, and amongst his progeny ultra-consistent seven-time winner Marmelo finished runner-up in the Melbourne Cup (Gr. 1, 3200m).
Lady Tatia won twice to 1850 metres and finished third in the Moonee Valley Classic (Gr. 2, 1600m).
Mark Chittick (Waikato Stud) said: “She's a beautiful classic type filly and been a lovely filly all the way through her life.â€
