"Te Akau Lockdown Love"

Date: 2 Apr 2020

Welcome to Day 5 of our new daily feature - as our world around us changes indelibly, we want to bring some smiles and sunshine every day - yes a small distraction but it does everyone good to be able to smile when times are tough.

We want to introduce you to our Snitzel colt "Arti" today - no he doesn't have his racing name yet as he only arrived at Te Akau in late January - purchased by David from the Gold Coast Sale in Australia.

When we were thinking of his stable name, we took a close look at his family and his mum is "In the Vanguard" - so we got a bit creative and thought hmmmm ... a Vanguard is person always at the forefront or an advance party, led by the Master of the Artillery - hence Arti!! We hope he always leads from the front and remains in front at the finishing post!

Arti has been flying through his early education and is quite a hard case - he is in a paddock close to our office so he sees all the daily comings and goings and is as nosey as can be! He also can see exactly when our feed runs start twice a day and neighs to our team in anticipation of his food!! He gets very excited about meal time.

He's a ripper of a colt, a beautiful mover and a precocious type. We can't wait to see what Arti - part of our 2020 Four Colt Breeding Syndicate - has ahead of him in his racing career.

Our 1c Snitzel - In the Vanguard colt was purchased by David in January at Gold Coast Yearling Sale 2020, from the draft of Newgate Farm.

Snitzel (Redoute's
Choice), one of three in the
trilogy of breed shaping champion stallions in Australia, along with
forefathers Redoute's Choice (Danehill) and Danehill (Danzig), stands at
Arrowfield Stud for $220,000.

He is
the first foal from a mare by reigning Champion Broodmare Sire Encosta
De Lago (Fairy King), who heads the list with wins again this season.

Commenting
on the colt, Newgate Farm stud manager Jim Carey said: “He's a high-quality
colt, great moving, sharp looking individual, and a very mature type.

“We've
always held him in high regard and he just continued to improve throughout the
sales preparation.

“His
dam was an extremely fast daughter of Encosta De Lago and she's thrown a colt
that looks exactly the same mould as she - all speed.

“He's always been one our favourites at the farm and a beautiful colt from the day he was born. We're thrilled that a great judge like David Ellis was able to secure him.”
