Te Akau Matamata Midweek Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has eleven horses racing on Wednesday 23 September at Matamata.

Weather: cloudy, track: Dead5, rail: out 12 metres. Showers forecast.

2.17 p.m. R5 11 When In Paris (4 m Pierro - Bulle De
Champagne) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); trialled twice in preparation to resume in
the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres. Better for the experience of racing twice
earlier in the year and she receives weight relief to 52.5kgs.

2.17 p.m. R5 14 Shezawinkle (4 m Rip Van Winkle - Sheza
Gem) - Danielle Johnson; improved with maturity to record two trial seconds
before striking a heavy track when debuting in the Maiden 1100 metres on 28
August at New Plymouth. Although drawn out (10) in the $10,000 Maiden 1400
metres, improved footing should aid her prospects.

2.52 p.m. R6 7 Silver Lake (4 m Redoute's Choice -
Silver Blossom) - Leith Innes; finished solidly for third when trialling on 15
September at Te Rapa, and having her first start for the stable in the $10,000
Maiden 1200 metres. She won a trial here in March before finishing second to
subsequent dual winner Kamakaze (Battle Paint), has good credentials but
requires luck from wide draw (14).

2.52 p.m. R6 10 Entriviere (4 m Tavistock - Marcey's
Belt) - Danielle Johnson; was very good through the trials stage, winning under
a hold most recently on 3 September at Te Teko, and debuts in the $10,000
Maiden 1200 metres. From the family of triple Group 1 winner Maldivian
(Zabeel), she appears a bright hope from barrier two.

2.52 p.m. R6 13 Maasir (3 g Proisir - Maakel) - Diego
Montes de Oca (a1); finished third when trialling here in March and he worked
home very well for third in tight-quarters on 3 September at Te Teko. On debut
in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres, he shapes to go further but capable of a
solid performance with luck from a wide draw (11).

2.52 p.m. R6 16 Radegast (4 g Savabeel - Marveen) -
Opie Bosson; kept up a competitive gallop for third when trialling on 3
September at Te Teko, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. He finished
second to stable-mate and race rival Entriviere (above) when trialling in
August at Te Teko, and handily drawn (4).

2.52 p.m. R6 17 Secret Amour (4 m Niagara - My Secret)
- Chelsea Burdan (a2); has been solid through the trials stage, including two
thirds this time in, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. She has the
pedigree to appreciate further, but should go well from barrier seven with
weight relief to 54.5kgs.

3.29 p.m. R7 5 Rip Van Gogh (3 g Rip Van Winkle - On
the Move) - Craig Grylls; kept galloping strongly for third when trialling on 3
September at Te Teko, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres.
Boasting strong pedigree, he shapes to race boldly with the right trip from
barrier seven.

3.29 p.m. R7 8 Charmaine's Dream (3 f Charm Spirit -
Scatter Cat) - Danielle Johnson; had one start as a two-year-old in July at Te
Rapa, kept galloping boldly for second when trialling since on 3 September at
Te Teko, and resumes in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1100 metres. She has natural ability
and rates a top three chance with luck from a wide draw (11).

4.39 p.m. R9 2 Super Sid (4 g Rip Van Winkle - Half
Bak) - Opie Bosson; was best past the post when resuming in the Maiden 1100
metres on 12 August at
Taupo, quinelled by stable-mates Ocean Belle (Ocean Park) and subsequent dual
winner Vamos Bebe (I Am Invincible), and notable fourth in the Maiden
1200 metres on 2 September at Avondale. Drawn wide (12), but he rates a top
four chance with a decent trip in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres.

4.39 p.m. R9 9 Confectionery (4 m Per Incanto - Not A Jaffa) - Danielle Johnson;
has shown ability through the trials stage and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden
1400 metres. Her dam, Not A Jaffa (Iffraaj), is a half-sister to Hong Kong
Horse of the Year Werther (Tavistock), and she should race well with luck from
a wide draw (10).
