Te Akau Matamata Midweek Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Wednesday 21 October at Matamata.

Weather: overcast, track: Slow9, rail: out 8 metres. 6mls rain forecast Tuesday and Wednesday.

1.42 p.m. R4 14 Shebringsmerubies (5 m Sebring - Run Away Ruby) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); finished fifth on firmer footing (Good2) than she prefers in the $10,000Rating 65 1600 metres on 7 October at Avondale, and contests the corresponding event. A course winner on slow footing and second on heavy, she has both the race fitness and right attributes to rate a top four chance.

4.39 p.m. R9 3 Excitonic (4 g Savabeel - Bint Piavonic) - Opie Bosson; burst between runners to dead-heat for second when trialling on 15 September at Te Rapa, and resumes in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. He delivered emphatically over 1400 metres in January at Rotorua, and has what it takes to threaten if appreciative of track conditions.

4.39 p.m. R9 7 Keke Star (4 m Shooting To Win - Kekova) - Danielle Johnson; galloped strongly for a close second when trialling on 3 September at Te Teko, before an exciting debut win in the Maiden 1000 metres on 13 September at Taupo - a race from which fourth placed Embers (Darci Brahma) has subsequently won and finished second to stable-mate Cornflower Blue (Savabeel) in the Barneswood Farm Stakes (Gr. 3, 1400m) at Ashburton. From a family that has acted on a range of footing, she should go well despite drawing out in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres.

4.39 p.m. R9 9 Xplosion (4 m Showcasing - Xpress) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); recorded a well deserved victory in January at Wanganui, and trialled well for second and third, respectively, in preparation to resume in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. She has the ability to act fresh and should race well despite drawing wide.
