Te Akau Matamata Preview
31 March, 2015
Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the eight race programme on Wednesday 1 April at Matamata.
As on Tuesday 31 March the conditions were: fine and Dead5, rail true.
2.38 p.m. R3 2 Scrutinize (2 c O'Reilly - Legs) - Matt Cameron; makes his debut from barrier one in the Maiden 2YO 1200 metres. On February 24 he quickened appreciably for an impressive trial win over 800 metres here on his home track, and without room he finished full of running in third on March 10 in a 1000-metre trial at Rotorua. A classy individual with a superb temperament, he receives a nice opportunity to show his wares. His dam, Legs (Pins), joint top on the 2005-06 NZ 3YO Free Handicaps, was a winner on debut as a three-year-old over 1200 metres before going on to win five of twelve starts including the NZ Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) and Kelt Capital Stakes (Gr. 1, 2040m).
3.13 p.m. R4 1 Astrid (3 f Pins - Astralita) - Matt Cameron; resumed off 50-days with a gutsy performance for second on March 12 in the Maiden 1200 metres on rain-affected Dead6 footing at Te Aroha. She is drawn barrier three in the NZB Pearl Series 3YO Fillies Maiden 1200 metres, and eligible for a $10,000 bonus on top for the $12k stakes. Given the conditions of the race she meets a competitive field and able to produce a similar performance to her last start will see her in the mix.
