Te Akau Matamata Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has three horse entered during the six-race programme on Wednesday August 28 at Matamata.

As at 10:44am on Monday Aug. 26 the conditions were: cloudy and Heavy10, rail out 7.5 metres.

2:25pm R3 8 Sing like Ella (4 m Danasinga - Fitzgeralda) - Michael Dee (a3); resumes from a 187-day spell, having had the benefit of a solid trials effort for fourth on Aug. 6 at Te Teko. She finished third on debut last September, indicating ability to act fresh and she strips a stronger mare to commence a new campaign over 1200 metres - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

2:25pm R3 14 Costa Viva (3 f Encosta De Lago - Vivacious Spirit) - Matt Cameron; quickened on the rail to score a comfortable trial win on Aug. 6 over 800 metres on Dead4 footing at Te Teko, and now makes her debut. She is from a Bel Esprit (Royal Academy) mare that won three races over sprint distances, and in turn from mares by Snippets (Lunchtime) and Last Tycoon (Try My Best) that also won up to 1250 metres.

3:35pm R5 3 Secret Whisper (4 g Align - Danewhisper) - Michael Dee (a3); has freshened nicely since last racing here on June 5 and he indicated his readiness for the Benchmark 75 1400 metres with a nice piece of work on Saturday. Able to act in a fresh state, a three-kilo claim to 55.5kg adds to his prospects and improved footing into the slow range would also be an assist.
