Te Akau Matamata Preview

Te Akau has five horses scheduled to race at Matamata, in their eight race programme on Wednesday 30 March.

The current conditions are Dead5, rail out 6.5m, and the weather is fine.

1.50 p.m. R2. 5 Splurge (3c Savabeel - Splashing Out) - Matt Cameron; looks well ahead of making his debut. He put in a good performance at the Rotorua trials on 8 March. He finished a close third and was doing some strong work through the line. This royally bred colt has continued to improve since his trial and has the potential to put in a nice run on debut for his owners, the Te Akau 2014 Breeding Syndicate (Mgr: D C Ellis).

2.25 p.m. R3. 3 Abloom (2f Darci Brahma - Corsage) - Cameron Lammas; tried hard on debut when finishing fourth. She has taken improvement from the run and looks to be very competitive with a race day experience under her belt. She pairs up with Cameron Lammas again, and from the handy barrier draw of three, Cameron should find her a lovely spot in the running and she should prove a first three chance second time to the races.

2.25. p.m. R3. 9 Bobtail (2f Alamosa - Cavendish Belle) - Matt Cameron; with two trial experiences, she makes her debut on her home track. She has shown improvement with each trial, and now looks ready to step out for the first time on race day. From the barrier draw of two, she should get a nice trip in the running for Matt and we think she can be a good place chance in the Maiden 2yo 1200 metre event.

3.00. p.m. R4. 8 Grazia (3f Savabeel - Trocair) - Matt Cameron; a full sister to promising mare Shillelagh, making her debut. She has worked very well over the last week, and the 1400 metres looks to suit the daughter of Savabeel, in her first start at the races. Last seen at the Rotorua trials on 8 March, where she put up a solid gallop through the line, she has trained on well since. Based on her work we expect a bold performance from her.

3.34. p.m. R5. 7 Our Abbadean (3f Lookin At Lucky - Highland Lights) - Matt Cameron; in off a 141 day break from racing, she looks to be a stronger filly this preparation. She has had a trial to prepare for this outing at Rotorua on 8 March, where she put in a good performance to finish close up in 5th. She is an honest filly who tries hard, and has had four starts to date, finishing behind three of the countries' best three year olds in Xtravagant, Capella and Raghu. She should figure in the finish fresh up.
