Te Akau Matamata Preview
31 May, 2016
Te Akau New Zealand has four horses entered for the ten race programme on Wednesday 1 June at Matamata.
As on Tuesday 31 May the conditions were: cloudy and Heavy11, rail out 4.5 metres.
12.10 p.m. R3 1 Skyscraper (4 g Manhattan Rain - Grand Performance) - Daniel Miller (a2.5); finished fifth after travelling keenly in front and going for home 500m out in the $20,000 Rating 65 1800 metres at New Plymouth. He has worked pleasingly in the loose heavy conditions likely to be prevalent on the day and given his good course record should go well in the Rating 65 High-weight 1600 metres providing he settles.
1.20 p.m. R5 5 Herschal (3 g Savabeel - Starring) - Cameron Lammas; has been freshened since last racing and like many of his rivals without heavy track form in the Maiden 1200 metres, much rests on their ability to handle it. In his favour, Starring (Stravinsky), his dam, recorded a win over this distance on heavy going.
2.30 p.m. R7 2 Tatters (3 f Tavistock - Rattle) - Michael Coleman; finished off okay after getting back against a stronger field in the $20,000 3YO 1400 metres at Rotorua, and with the addition of visor blinkers contests the $12,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Rating 65 1400 metres for fillies and mares (eligible for $11,500 bonus). She placed on heavy footing as a two-year-old and has the talent to prove competitive if appreciative of the going.
3.34 p.m. R9 8 Grandeur (3 g O'Reilly - Grand Echezeaux) - Matt Cameron; makes his debut in the Maiden 1400 metres, following two preparatory trials. From a great family, he has been working up quite nicely on rain-affected going and has the benefit of drawing well out from the rail.
