Te Akau Matamata Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Wednesday 29 March at Matamata.

As on Tuesday 28 March the conditions were: fine and Slow8, rail out 5 metres. 5mls forecast race day.

2.05 p.m. R3 1 Embellish (2 c Savabeel - Bling) - Opie Bosson, makes his debut in the Maiden 2YO 1200 metres. His two trials, with Bosson aboard, have registered a third and first respectively, most recently here on 21 March when cruising home off the front to beat stakes placed stable-mate Summer Monsoon (Stratum). A brother to Group One winner Diademe, whom Bosson had a terrific association with, he may prefer better footing but looks to have the class, nonetheless, to warrant favouritism in a field of seven debutantes.

3.15 p.m. R5 10 Fastnet Fire (4 m Fastnet Rock - Dragon's Tail) - Michael McNab; closed solidly for third over 1900 metres on the first day at Wairoa, but missed on the same course when backing up three days later. She finished strongly for second here on debut, at her only course attempt, was dominant when winning her Maiden over this distance and can produce a much improved effort in the Rating 65 1600 metres.

3.50 p.m. R6 5 Abloom (3 f Darci Brahma - Corsage) - Opie Bosson; did well, from last, to finish close up for the minors when fourth on 26 February at Wairoa, having run home strongly for second there three days prior. Drawn barrier one in the $12,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series 1400 metres, her best efforts have been on better going but she keeps improving to rate an each way chance.

4.25 p.m. R7 13 Lady Amadeus (3 f Medaglia D'oro - Rialto Bridge) - Opie Bosson; was collared near the line after leading at the last meeting here, given Slow8 track conditions in the Maiden 1400 metres and contests the corresponding event. She was brave off a wide run to finish third at her previous start, had shown to appreciate slow footing when trialling and with blinkers on looks an each way chance again from barrier five.
