Te Akau Matamata Preview
3 February, 2019
Te Akau New Zealand has six horses racing on Sunday 3 February at Matamata.
As on Saturday 2 February the conditions were: fine and Dead6, rail out 6 metres. No rain forecast.
12.12 p.m. R1 10 Shezathinka (3 f So You Think - Headsup) - Nik Bakar (a3);
continued her good form, following two seconds, sustaining a run from well back
for third in the Maiden 1600 metres on 20 January at Te Rapa. Drawn barrier
one, with weight relief to 53kgs, is ideal and she brings the right form to
rate an each way chance.
1.59 p.m. R4 5 Willpower (3 g Power - The Lady) -
Craig Grylls; freshened following two starts in the spring and sustained a big
finish for fourth when trialling over 935 metres on 8 January at Cambridge.
Resuming in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres, he has contested strong form races,
has natural ability, and rates an each way chance with luck from the draw (10).
1.59 p.m. R4 9 Kylie Bax (3 f Pentire - Platinum Blond) -Matt Cameron; finished strongly for second on debut in the Maiden
1200 metres in November at Avondale, with Cameron aboard, and followed with a
notable third here to subsequent winner Vichy (Cape Blanco) in the Maiden 1400
metres on 19 December. Given time since, she appears an each way chance from
barrier five in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres.
2.34 p.m. R5 3 Enrichment (2 g Rock ‘N' Pop - Enhance)
- Matt Cameron; displayed a good action when winning an 800-metre trial on 8
January at Cambridge, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 2YO 1200 metres. The dam
stylishly won her first two starts, the second of them on this course with
Cameron aboard. Drawn out (8), the right trip could make him quite competitive.
4.19 p.m. R8 5 Griffin (4 g Iffraaj - Double Elle) - Chelsea Burdan (a4); resumed
on a bright note, with Burdan aboard, winning the Rating 65 1200 metres on 30 December at Taupo, and
steps up in the $11,000 Rating 72 1400 metres. He sprinted home to win his sole
start as a two-year-old on this course and ideally drawn (4) the brother of
triple Group One winner Gingernuts should go well again with weight relief to
53.5kgs.
4.54 p.m. R9 7 Elegant D'Oro (5 m Medaglia d'Oro - Elegant Fashion) - Johnathan
Riddell; settled back and kept up a strong finish for second in the Rating 65
2000 metres on 27 December at New Plymouth - a good form race, and ran the same
last sectional (35.1) as the winner when finishing seventh in the Rating 65
1950 metres on 16 January at Rotorua. Barrier one and improved footing should
enable top four prospects.
