Te Akau NZ Matamata Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has five horses entered for the seven-race programme on Monday July 1 at Matamata.

As at 8:32am on Friday June 29 the conditions were: fine and Heavy10, rail out 8 metres.

1:18pm R2 6 Rapid Gain (3 g Flying Spur - Occasional Gain) - Matt Cameron; underwent what appears to be a successful wind operation and resumes from a spell in the Maiden 1200 metres. An athletic type, he has shown to cope with rain-affected footing at the trials and all concerned are looking for an encouraging performance to get his campaign underway.

1:53pm R3 6 Kayleen (3 f Towkay - Indomitable) - Matt Cameron; began slowly and came from a long way back for second here on June 5 in the Maiden 1200 metres on Heavy11. Prior to, she was a victim of circumstances before staging the run of the race to finish fourth on May 20 in the Maiden 1200 metres on Heavy10 footing at Tauranga. In the Maiden 1400 metres, she can reverse a tardy getaway and settle handier from barrier four. She remains bright and certainly deserves to have her consistency rewarded.

3:38pm R6 7 Sneaky Feelings (3 f High Chaparral - Landara) - Matt Cameron; made a good fist of her debut when fifth here in the Maiden 1600 metres for fillies and mares on June 5. Into barrier five, a filly with genuine attributes that will improve with maturity, she worked nicely on Saturday morning in preparation.

4:13pm R7 2 Prospero (5 g High Chaparral - Alfred's Jewel) - Matt Cameron; steadied rearward and made good ground for third here on June 5, striking heavier going than he prefers, in the Benchmark 65 1600-metre High-weight. Already a winner over 2200 metres on slow footing, the step to 2000 metres is expected to suit and there is a likelihood of improving track conditions. The outside gate should allow him to travel into proceedings at a timely moment; he races well here and strips in good fettle for the assignment - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

4:13pm R7 9 Polarity (5 g No Excuse Needed - Affirmed Lane) - Kelly Myers; travelled easily at the back of the field and sustained a sweeping run for second on June 8 in the Benchmark 65 2100 metres on Slow8 at Te Rapa. He too has trained on in good fashion, remains a happy horse and should strike footing to suit.
