Te Akau: Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

We shine the spotlight on Tuesday's Matamata trackwork highlights.

Better Than Ever again impressed in preparation for Awapuni this weekend when working on a fast plough at Matamata this morning.

Ridden by regular work rider Toby Brett, the Awapuni Gold Cup entrant looked good running 1200m in 1:13.9 and last 600m in a slick 34.8.

Another who worked well was Tactician (P Turner) over 1000m in 1:03, the final 600m in 35.2. The last start Trentham runner-up was travelling well within himself, indicating a bold showing at Awapuni on Saturday.

Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes contender Quintette (Cameron) had Darci's Gold (Miller) as a companion running 1200m in 1:19.4 and quickening over the last 600m in 36.1.

Al Strada (R Jones) worked with Jealous Much (Turner) over 1000m in 1:00.3 and 600m 35.3. Al Strada has done well since his Diamond Stakes' placing and will be leading prospect in the Manawatu feature, while Jealous Much is primed for a bold effort at Ellerslie on Saturday. Kirramosa (Innes), another heading to the Sires' Produce Stakes, ran 800m in 52.5 last 600m in 37.4

Burgundy (Cameron) who contests the Listed 1400m at Awapuni, ran 1200m in 1:18.8, the last 600m in 36. He is fit and ready for a bold showing.

Jimmy Hoffa (P McKay), another Sires' Produce Stakes entrant, had Cultolavida (Coleman) as a partner on the all-weather track, running 1000m in 1:03.4 and 600m 36.5. Remaining gallops were on the plough. Fiftyshadesofgrey (Turner), who contests the Manawatu Classic, ran 1200m in 1.17.5, the last 600m in 36.7. Choice Bro (Roff), who races in the open 1400m at Awapuni, had So Delight(Hepi) as a companion over 800m in 52.3, the final 600m 36.6. Possible race rival Villifye (Tanaka) worked with Mosh Pit (Sapsworth) over 1200m in 1:23 and 600m in 37.4. Trainer Graham Richardson is hoping for rain for Villifye.

The Lions Rule (Ormsby), who races at Ellerslie on the weekend, looked good working over 1200m in 1:21.2, the last 600m in 35.1. Leith Innes made the trip south to gallop Quintessential in preparation for the Breeders' Stakes at Te Aroha on Saturday week. She worked with Cat Woman (Hepi), running 1000m in 1:02.5 and 600m in 35.2.

Madly Bentley(Samuelsson) covered 1200m 1:19.4, the last 600m in 39, while Short Tale (Grant) wasn't after time completing 1000m in 1:14.5 and 600m in 42.3. Vitali (Turner), who is coming to hand well, ran 1000m in 1:05 and 600m in 38.4. Whosyourmaster (Turner) took 1:05.3 and  37.4 for his 1000m, while Kasumi (Allen) looked good running 800m in 50.5 and 600m in 36.5.

Allanah (Tanaka) completed 1200m in 1.23.2 and 600m in 37.4, High Praise (Sliz) ran the same trip in 1:21.3 and 37.5.  Rose of Falkirk (M Brosnan) covered 1000m in 1.07.2 and 38, Silk Chardonnay (Sliz) ran 800m in 51.3 and 600m in 37.3, while Milkwood (Coleman) strode over 1200m in 1:24.2 and 600m in 37.1.
