Te Akau: Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

A slice of the action from this morning's Matamata track.

Stablemates Xanadu and Quest underlined their fitness for Te Aroha on Saturday with impressive work at Matamata this morning.

Galloping 20 metres out on a dead course proper, Xanadu (Coleman) strode into her work from the 1200-metre mark, running that distance in 1:20.6 and quickening for a final 1000m in 1:05.4 and 600m in 37.2.

The Bev and Ken Kelso-trained mare was disappointing in her most recent start but looks ready for another big effort in the Gr. 1 Fiber Fresh New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes.

Form runner Quest (K Jones) also looked the part in her solo work when she covered 1200m in 1:21.2, 1000m in 1:06.3 and 600m in 38.3. The Volksraad mare has put together two smart wins in midweek company and will chase a hat-trick in Saturday's R75 2200-metre event.

Whosyourmaster (Blair) drew attention to his Te Aroha prospects when he led Kaptain Kirkup (C Ormsby) at the end of 1200m in 1:22.2, 1000m in 1:05.4 and the final 60m in an impressive 36.9. Goyescas (Miller) was also in good form over 1000m in 1:06 and 600m in 36.7, while Breeders' Stakes entry Dancing Attendance (Sapsworth) hit the line strongly at the end of 1000m in 1:06.6 and 600m in 37.5.

Ten Belles (Campbell), another for Te Aroha, travelled up well over 800m in 50.8 and 600m in 37.8, Thrive (Demir) and Prospero (Tuysuz) ran the same distance in 51.2 and 37.6, and Osmunda (Brett) and a Volksraad filly (Miller) returned 56.2 and 40.6.

Brave Centaur (Dowling) continued his Easter Handicap preparation when he trailed stablemate Augusta National (S Wong) in the early stages of 1200m in 1:17.5 and 1000m in 1:05.3, working up to finish alongside after a final 600m in 39.8.

Our Famous Eve (P Turner), another headed to the Easter, was well held over the last 1000m of her work in 1:10.9 and 600m in 41.8. She has done well since her big win at Tauranga.

Te Aroha candidates Yin Yang Master (Baker) and Revolutionary (Allen) were paired over 1200m in 1:20.9, 1000m in 1:06.2 and 600m in 39, while Casual Fling (Ward) finished her work off well after 800m in 52.6 and 600m in 38.2. Villifye (Sapsworth), who resumes at Te Aroha, covered 1200m in 1:23.8, 1000m in 1:07.2 and 600m in 38.4.

Allanah (Sasada) was well held over 1000m in 1:09.6 and 600m in 38.8. Sinnfonia (Coleman), another set to resume at Te Aroha, got through 1200m in 1:22.5, 1000m in 1:07.1 and 600m in 38.9. Anyx (Chiong) was kept to 1200m in 1:26.4, with the last 1000m in 1:12 and 600m in 42.6.

On the sand Te Aroha three-year-old sprint candidate Silverdale (Abel) worked well over 1000m in 1:05.8 and 600m in 38.6, while Cool Cruising (Weatherley) ran the same trip in 1:06.9 and 37.2.

Art Beat (K Hillis) looked bright when leaving 1000m behind in 1:06.9, with the last 600m in 37.2. An Easter Handicap start is being considered after her bold fresh-up run at Tauranga. Confirmed Easter runner Happy Guys (K Jones) was allowed striding work over 1000m in 1:17 and 600m in 45.2. The former Hong Kong galloper has come through his first-up fourth in pleasing order.

Out West (Dowling) was kept to 1:11.8 and 40.6 over 1000m, while Cody Cat (Weatherley) returned 1:13.6 and 41.7 over the same distance.

On the all-weather track Te Aroha entry Nothing Trivial (W Hillis) was partnered by Le'Vantos (K Hillis) over 1000m in 1:07.2 and 600m in 38.6. Olivia Ann (Burton) covered the same ground in 1:11.8 and 38.9.
