Te Akau Matamata Wednesday Preview
27 March, 2019
Te Akau New Zealand has seven horses racing on Wednesday 27 March at Matamata.
As on Tuesday 26 March the conditions were: fine and Dead5, rail out 7 metres. No rain forecast.
1.15 p.m. R2 2 Qiji
Crystal (3 f Per Incanto - Moss Lady) - Opie Bosson; freshened since
contesting the Maiden 1600 metres on 13 February at Te Aroha, after running
home strongly in tight quarters for third over a mile in January at Te
Teko. She brings strong form to rate an each way chance in the $10,000 NZB
Insurance Pearl Series Maiden 1400 metres.
2.27 p.m. R4 4 Enrichment (2 g Rock ‘N' Pop - Enhance)
- Donavan Mansour; produced a notable debut performance when finding the line
for fourth in the Maiden 2YO 1200 metres on 15 February at Wanganui, and given
time (40 days) since. His dam stylishly won her first two starts, including the
second of those on this course, which could prove an omen to rate a top three
chance in the $10,000 Maiden 2YO 1200 metres.
2.27 p.m. R4 8 Mary Gold (2 f Ocean Park - Gold Rocks)
- Opie Bosson; was
luckless here on debut a fortnight ago in the Maiden 2YO 1200 metres,
when denied room after trailing, in a race won by stable-mate Folk Dress
(Pierro). She looks a top three chance from barrier five in the corresponding
event. Her half-sister Gold Fever (Savabeel), bought by David Ellis, was an
exceptionally talented juvenile, winning the Matamata Breeders' Stakes (Gr. 2,
1200m) and finishing third in both the Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and
Eclipse Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) to become a Champion Two-Year-Old finalist (won
by stable-mate Melody Belle (Commands)). The family loves this course and the
sort to be finishing strongly.
3.07 p.m. R5 5 Quattro Katie (3 f Zoustar -
Kakakakatie) - Opie
Bosson; has been given time (49 days) since resuming with a fourth on 6
February at Tauranga, and ideally drawn (3) in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1200
metres. Unlucky not to win during a Southern spring campaign when
placing three times from five starts, including a third in the Canterbury Belle
Stakes (Listed, 1200m), she appears ideally placed to threaten.
3.07 p.m. R6 12 Scottish Star (3 f Bullbars - Highland Lights)
- Opie Bosson; followed a close second with a resolute win at the trials on 5
February at Te Aroha, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. A
half-sister to stable-mate Our Abbadean (Lookin At Lucky), a dual Group Two
winner and dual Group One placed, she shapes to utilize the barrier (3) and
should go well first up.
4.22 p.m. R7 5 Miss Scandinavia (4 m Smart Missile -
Miss Helsinki) - Opie
Bosson; made ground resuming over 1200 metres and produced a big finish
for second over 1300 metres, both in February at Wairoa, before finishing fifth
here a fortnight ago in the Rating 65 1400 metres. She gets her chance to
improve from barrier three in the $10,000 Rating 65 1600 metres.
4.57 p.m. R8 8 Te
Akau Dragon (3 g Power - Cool Diamond) - Opie Bosson; found the line
for fourth with the
addition of visor blinkers in the Maiden 1350 metres on 15 February at
Wanganui, and raced well for third in the Maiden 1600 metres on 17 March at
Woodville. He is ideally drawn (4) to go well again in the Maiden 1600 metres.
