Te Akau Melbourne Cup Day Preview
5 November, 2018
Te Akau New Zealand has two horses racing on Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 6 November: Ellerslie, and Wingatui.
Ellerslie:
As on Monday 5 November the conditions were: overcast and Dead5, rail true. No rain forecast.
2.32 p.m. R5 2 King Kane (5 g Showcasing - Vannista Belle) - Nik Bakar (a4); was closer when finishing fourth in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 17 October at Te Aroha, and contests the $30,000 Rating 65 1600 metres. Ideally drawn (2), with weight relief to 56kgs, he maps to receive an economical trip and further improvement would rate him a top four chance.
Wingatui:
As on Monday 5 November the conditions were: fine and Slow9, rail true. No rain forecast.
4.07 p.m. R8 1 Devil May Care (5 g Lonhro - Devil's Song) - Jason Laking; never saw much daylight in the straight last time out at Ashburton, in the Rating 72 1400 metres. Although the recent form suggests otherwise, his sectionals have been fine and back in grade for the $22,500 Rating 65 1400 metres he can prove competitive from off the pace if appreciative of the going.
