Te Akau Midweek Hawera Preview
27 April, 2022
Te Akau Racing has three horses entered on Wednesday 27 April at Hawera.
Weather: overcast, track: Heavy8, rail: out 6 metres 800m - 400m, remainder out 4 metres. No rain forecast.
12:30 p.m. R1 1 Bak Da Master (7 g Mastercraftsman - Bak Da Princess) - Michael Roustoby (a3); rounded off solidly for third in a $12,000 Rating 74 Jumpers High-weight 2000 metres on 20 April at Matamata, and contests the corresponding event. Unbeaten in two hurdles here and preparing for a jumps' campaign, he has weight relief and rates a top three prospect in a good field.
1:07 p.m. R2 6 Luxuriant (4 m Iffraaj - Opulent) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); was a solid fifth on debut and went okay after being caught three wide in her second start. She sustained a huge run to win after missing the start in a trial on 19 April at Taupo, and she resumes in the $12,000 Maiden 1200 metres. She rates a top three chance from barrier one.
2:52 p.m. R5 3 Lightning Field (5 g Deep Field - Claudine) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); produced a terrific victory in a Rating 74 1200 metres on Legends Day (12 Feb.) at Te Rapa, and was notable late coming from well back (33.5 600m) in a Rating 74 1200 metres on 5 March at Ellerslie. While he might not have shown the same zest in a Rating 74 1200 metres on 2 April at Awapuni, he has recorded three wins on yielding ground and is capable of bouncing back in the $12,000 Rating 74 1400 metres.
