Te Akau Midweek Trans Tasman Preview


Te Akau Racing has two horses entered on Wednesday 24 September at Cambridge (poly-track) in New Zealand, and three horses entered at Sandown, Melbourne.


Cambridge:

Weather: overcast, track: poly-track, rail: true. 25mls rain forecast Tuesday and 30mls Wednesday.

1:13 p.m. R2 6 Carsolio (3 g Bivouac – Whitehaven) – George Rooke; he resumed with a sound win in the Maiden 1000 metres on 17 August at Taupo, and was collared after leading to finish ninth in the Special Conditions 1200 metres on 6 September at Ellerslie. Contesting the $18,500 Rating 72 970 metres, barrier one provides him with the opportunity to bounce back if he takes to the synthetic surface at his first attempt. Fixed odds: $3.40 & $1.55.

2:25 p.m. R4 4 Colonel Warden (4 g Russian Revolution – Moralto) – Sam McNab (a3); he was held up off an economical trip before finishing solidly for fourth in the Rating 69 1300 metres here on 10 September, also with Sam McNab aboard, and contests the $18,500 Rating 72 1300 metres. He has recorded two wins, a third, and a fourth, on synthetic surfaces, has weight relief to 55.5kg, and is a top three chance from barrier four. Fixed odds: $4.50 & $1.85.


Sandown: 

Weather: overcast, track: Soft5, rail: true. 3mls rain forecast Wednesday. 

4:35 p.m. (NZ) ~2:35 p.m. (Vic) R3 9 Exuberance (4 m Savabeel – Miss Opulence) – Blake Shinn; she sustained a strong effort for third after working forward from an outside gate in a jump out on 8 September at Cranbourne, also with Shinn aboard, and resumes in the A$50,000 Benchmark 66 1000 metres. A dual second-up winner over 1200 metres last season, she competed in Group Two and Listed races over 1400 metres, and has compiled a very good record. Ideally drawn (2), she should  race well with improvement to come. NZ TAB fixed odds: $6.00 & $2.25.

5:10 p.m. (NZ) ~ 3:10 p.m. (Vic) R4 4 Jealous (5 m Nicconi – Jujube) – Craig Williams; she kept improving near the rail and quickened in the straight to win a 1400-metre jump out on 15 September at Cranbourne, likewise with Williams aboard. Resuming and having her first start for stable in the A$50,000 Benchmark 66 1600 metres for Fillies & Mares, she brings a record of three wins to 1800 metres, has drawn well enough (7) to prove competitive first-up. NZ TAB fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.45.

6:20 p.m. (NZ) ~ 4:20 p.m. R6 14 Sky Sista (4 m Overshare – Woogie) – Blake Shinn; she finished fifth in a quiet jump out on 15 September at Cranbourne. Resuming, she is another having her first start for the stable in the A$50,000 Benchmark 66 1300 metres for Fillies & Mares, she was a strong course/distance Maiden winner in May at only her third start - she is ideally drawn (5) to race well first-up. NZ TAB fixed odds: $10.00 & $3.30.
