At last a full day at Te Akau Stud where I can put my farmer's hat on and run the farm - it is starting to dry out now but we are still in great shape - plenty of grass, of good quality - it will be interesting to see if the forecast rain this weekend comes.
So I hope that they are putting plenty of water on the tracks at Te Rapa and Trentham!
I am in a really good frame of mind today as I saw one of the best drafts I have seen in many years yesterday as we were inspecting yearlings. Lyndhurst Farm operated and owned by Mark and Shelley Treweek had a super draft full of quality - nice horses, sound types, good pedigrees, exciting sires. There is nothing better for a yearling buyer than to see an impressive draft.
All the staff at the farm are busy at the moment preparing the property for the arrival of a lot of yearlings from Karaka - paddocks have all been limed and fertilised and the farm looks in great condition.
The feedback we are getting from the first episode of Te Akau TV has been amazing - so I am pleased that so many people have enjoyed it. if you haven't watched it - do that today!
PS Doesn't my new assistant look great - Meg Hazlett en route with Tommy to look after Longbeach at Wanganui.
