Te Akau Midweek Update
3 July, 2019

Two years ago I found myself writing a similar update to this one. There were shares available in only two horses from Karaka - a colt and a filly. Those remaining shares were finally sold in July.
Of course those two horses were Group 1, Group 3 Australian and Karaka Million winner Avantage who went on to be named Champion 2YO of her year. The other was Sword of Osman who has since won Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 events - and was runner up for the Champion 2YO title behind his stablemate.
This season we have purchased 60 horses and only have shares now available in two colts.
The More Than Ready colt out of the Encosta de Lago mare Costarosa - this morning I went back through my notes in my catalogue and I see I rated him very highly, as did all my team. My comments on this colt were:
"Very athletic colt - real two year old type. Looks a Karaka Million colt. Excellent individual physically, strong, great bone and brilliant pedigree."

I was prepared to pay up to $300,000 for this colt and was stoked to secure him for $180,000.
What makes this colt really special is how he has impressed all our track work riders. He certainly looks an exciting colt full of promise.
His sire More Than Ready is perhaps not that well known in New Zealand but is one of the best sires of all time. These are his statistics and they tell the story - his progeny has left the following:
194 individual stakes' winners with 383 stakes' wins
$221,243,688 (yes that's $221 million) in progeny stakes' earnings
Over 73% winners to runners
Winners in 36 different countries
26 stakes' horses in the past year alone
That's why they call More Than Ready "a living legend". So you can see he is an amazing sire!
The female side of this colt's family is also pretty special and is full of really excellent racehorses, with a lot of them performing well at two years.
There are only TWO SHARES left in this colt so if you want to have a horse in the Karaka Million this well could be the one!
Don't be put off by him being one of the last to sell - three-time Group 1 winner Gingernuts was also a last to sell - so if you would like to join Karyn in racing this exciting colt who we call "Niko" call me now on 021 925151.
