Te Akau Midweek Update

I keep saying it, but it truly is an exciting time of the year with the Karaka Yearling Sales and the big race Karaka Million meeting at Ellerslie which then leads on to the Group One day at Te Rapa.

At the moment this week I am spending all day, every day at the Karaka Sales' complex and I've only got a few yearlings left to inspect, but I can certainly guarantee you that there will be some very good horses that come out of this sale.

A lot of people ask me why I keep going back to Karaka. The reason is pretty simple we have bought so many classy and successful horses at this sale complex and it's the venue where New Zealand breeders put their best horses up for sale.

There are some yearlings by some pretty exciting first season sires that I think is most encouraging for the industry going forward. Stallions like Turn Me Loose, Tivaci, Preferment, Tarzino and Vadamos. All top racehorses that have a top chance of leaving Group One horses.

This morning we have the Karaka Million barrier draw for the two one million-dollar races, which Karyn and I will be participating in.

Last year Probabeel won from the outside draw but it is definitely a big disadvantage drawing wide in the Karaka Million. My good friend Colin Jillings who won more races at Ellerslie than anyone I met, always said that a draw was very important at the 1200 metre start at Ellerslie.

So, if you'd like to come out to the sales and have a look at some of these nice yearlings with us please feel free to give me a ring anytime on 021 925 151.

The team has two nice chances at Avondale today, so good luck to all of our owners and ...
