Te Akau Midweek Update

David writes:

With the Exceed and Excel colt from Sydney all sold, our attention now turns to the colt that we bought at the South Island Sale.

He is a striking Coats Choice colt out of the Encosta De Lago mare She's Refined.  We bought this colt for $21,0000 so a 10% share is going to cost only $2,100 and a 20% share will be $4,200 plus GST and other minor expenses.

There is plenty of black type in this family - the colt's great grandmother is Purchasepaperchase who won a stakes race in the UK before being runner up in the Group 1 Longchamp Prix Saint-Alary in France.  He is also closely related to Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Matiya who was also runner up in the Group 1 English 1000 Guineas and third in the Group 1 Royal Ascot Fillies Mile and Group 1 Chantilly Prix de Diane in France.

Other stand outs in this colt's family include Group 3 Royal Ascot Princess Margaret Stakes' winner African Skies and stakeswinners Rada Angel (Deauville, France), Carambola (South Africa) and Nakheel (UK) with stakes performers Lady Stardust (UK), Toreador (UK/South Africa), Handel (Ireland/South Africa) and Star Ruby (UK).

Coats Choice SI Session

This colt has arrived home looking an absolute picture and I am thrilled with the job that Jamie Richards has done. To buy a colt of this quality for just $21,000 is a dream come true. Who knows, he could be one of  the most exciting colts we have bought.

If you would like to have a share in this colt you need to be quick. The Exceed and Excel colt sold in less than two hours.  I see this Coats Choice colt being ready to race this time next year and I could just seem him being a colt that will be ready for the classics as a three year old.

Last night we had 10 mls of rain to wash the fertiliser in and we have our fingers and toes (and everything else!) crossed that the rain forecast for tomorrow and Friday does come because the grass will really take off.
