Te Akau Monday North & South Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has eight horses racing on 30 December: Taupo and Kurow.

Taupo:

Weather: fine, track: Dead4, rail: true. No rain forecast.

12.55 p.m. R2 3 Willpower (4 g Power - The Lady) - Opie Bosson; quickened into third to stable-mate Age of Fire (Fastnet Rock) when trialling on 10 December at Avondale, after spelling in September, and resumes in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. A winner over 1200 metres in April at Matamata, having his fifth start, he is ideally drawn (5) to race well. Fixed odds: $4.40 & $1.65.

1.30 p.m. R3 15 Lucky Shark (3 g Darci Brahma - Shamardal Luck) - Ryoya Kozaki; won emphatically when trialling on 26 November at Cambridge, before resuming with a fourth after racing outside the leader in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres on 11 December at Hastings. He has two trial wins to his credit, athletic, and rates an each way chance from barrier four. Fixed odds: $3.00 & $1.30.

2.05 p.m. R4 9 Zouluminous (3 f Zoustar - Luminous Harmony) - Chelsea Burdan (a3); finished third on debut in the Maiden 3YO 1300 metres on 10 November at Hastings, and fifth in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres on 28 November at Tauranga. Drawn barrier six in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1400 metres, with weight relief to 52.5kgs, she receives an opportunity to improve further. Fixed odds: $16.00 & $3.40.

2.40 p.m. R5 1 She's Not Bad (5 m He's Remarkable - Andra) - Chelsea Burdan (a3); was good through the line resuming over 1200 metres at Tauranga, and notable when fifth in a good field for the Rating 82 1400 metres on 14 December at Awapuni. Back in grade, with weight relief to 57.5kgs, in the $11,000 Rating 72 1400 metres, she has impressed winning four of 11 starts and ideally drawn (2) to figure. Fixed odds: $2.80 & $1.25.

2.40 p.m. R5 3 Shezathinka (4 m So You Think - Headsup) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); converted her status as a highly rated Maiden when winning over 1600 metres in September at Matamata, and courtesy of finishing second in the Lowland Stakes (Gr. 2, 2100m) last season she jumps a grade into the $11,000 Rating 72 1400 metres. Drawn barrier one, with weight relief to 55kgs, she looked good winning a recent trial at Te Aroha, and placed at her only course attempt. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $1.75.

3.14 p.m. R6 11 Festivity  (3 f I Am Invincible - Mabsam) - Michael McNab; spaced her rivals when winning impressively at the trials on 16 December at Te Aroha, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1100 metres. By the leading sire in Australia (wins), she appears a readymade favourite on the strength of her trial win by seven and three-quarter lengths and should prove tough. Fixed odds: $1.50 & $1.10.

Kurow:

Weather: overcast, track: Good3, rail: true.

2.22 p.m. R5 8 Xplosion (3 f Showcasing - Xpress) - Samantha Wynne; freshened since a spring campaign that included fifth in the Canterbury Belle Stakes (Listed, 1200 metres). She trialled well on 9 December at Riccarton, and resumes in the $10,000 Maiden 2YO & Up 1200 metres. A sister to Wakefield Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) and Barneswood Farm Stakes (Gr. 3, 1400m) winner Xpression, who also finished third in the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), she appears ideally drawn (1) to threaten. Fixed odds: $2.70 & $1.30.

2.57 p.m. R6 4 Dublin Rose (4 m O'Reilly - Irish Dream) - Samantha Wynne; freshened after making up plenty for third in the Pearl Series Maiden 1200 metres on 3 November at Motukarara, and not asked for much in a strong gallop for third when trialling on 9 December at Riccarton. In the money nine out of 11 starts, she deserves a win in the $10,000 Maiden 2YO & Up 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.35.
