Te Akau Monday Update

David writes:

I am writing this update today as I fly to the Gold Coast with Karyn to attend the Magic Millions' Sale which starts on Wednesday.

During the flight, I started to reflect on the large number of winners we have had in the past week - at least 14!

It's also great to have our stable rider Opie Bosson back and riding in fantastic form.  I think he has won six of his last seven rides for us.

Over the weekend we only had two runners in New Zealand - both at Awapuni on Saturday and they both won very nicely. This means we now have a stable strike rate for the season of only 4.9 - an incredible statistic for a major stable.

For every 4.9 horses Te Akau sends to the races in New Zealand, one comes home a winner.

I want to congratulate all the members of my team!  You simply don't achieve results like this unless every person is pulling their weight, unless they are passionate and dedicated to the job they do.

So, thank you to everyone - I am so proud to lead such a committed and professional team.  To you, I say - I know and greatly appreciate how hard you have all worked with races most days through the whole festive and holiday period.  Even today there may not be races for us but we have a number of horses trialling at Cambridge.

People frequently ask me how they can join the winning Te Akau team.

The answer is easy - it doesn't matter if you want 5% in a horse or 100%, you are welcome to ring me or Karyn and have a chat.  We are currently on the Gold Coast for the horse sale this week but we are always available - you can email Karyn - [email protected] or call me.

We are looking forward to Mark Walker joining us tomorrow. Keep an eye out on our website for details on the horses we buy from Australia - shares never last long!

Later this month all of our focus is on Karaka - we will be buying promising young horses across all price ranges.

Simply put - give us a call as there will be a share for you!

We have bought some really talented horses over the years from the Magic Millions' Sale … have a look at these examples on our “Roll of Honour” on our website … all came from Magic Millions:

PRINCESS COUP - I purchased her for A$260,000 and she won over $4 million in prize money.  A Group 1 winner in New Zealand and Group 1 runner up four times in Australia, she was Champion 3YO, Champion Middle Distance Horse and twice Champion Stayer, as well as NZB Filly of the Year.  When retired, she sold for A$3 million as a broodmare.

COSTA VIVA - I purchased her for A$100,000 and she won the Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas and was also named NZB Filly of the Year.

TELL A TALE - I bought him for A$140,000 and he went on to win the $1 million Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas as well as finish second in the $1.5 million Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup.  He was retired back to New Zealand with over $1 million in stakes' earnings.

INTEGRATE - I bought this classy filly for only $11,000 and she won Group races in New Zealand and Australia - in fact she was Group 1 runner up a phenomenal eight times!  She had 14 wins in her career before being sold to Japan as a broodmare.

These are just a few of the top horses that we have bought from the Gold Coast.

So, if you want to be involved in a yearling with Te Akau just call me on (+64) 021 925 151.  You will be involved in a young horse that is:

BOUGHT by David Ellis

TRAINED by New Zealand's leading trainer Jamie Richards

RIDDEN by Te Akau's stable rider, Champion Jockey Opie Bosson

Now that's a team that is hard to beat.

Meanwhile, Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker has had a superb start to the new 2020 season, winning four races this week on two race days.  Mark, like Jamie in New Zealand, leads the Trainers' Premiership.

Have a great week and all the very best of luck to our owners with runners in coming days - and …
