Te Akau Monday Update

What an incredible few days it's been for Te Akau Racing.
I'm still pinching myself to think that in the last four years we have won five Karaka Million's. It really was a very emotional evening on Saturday night at Ellerslie, and to see the team win both of the million-dollar races and creating records and history at the same time was massively special and the most amazing experience I've ever had on a racecourse.
It's quite incredible at such special moments when everyone rightly gets carried away - I should've been laughing but when I was interviewed by Aidan Rodley, I actually had tears coming out of my eyes as I was just so proud of the whole team.

Winning four Karaka Million's in a row only happens when you have an amazing team looking after these horses. Cool Aza Beel, being a colt, comes from our colt barn, being very astutely run by Scott Lucock and Mette Mosebo.
They do an amazing job and its quite incredible that our three previous winners of this race were fillies and the last colt we won this race or the equivalent with was King's Chapel, when the race was run at Te Rapa. He too was ridden by Opie Bosson about 18 years ago when the race was worth $500,000.
For the three-year-old Million Classic, I was really confident that Probabeel would win, I thought she'd just have too much class. After all she almost won the Group One Flight Stakes, a very prestigious race for three-year-old fillies in Sydney. She literally was beaten a lip!
Her form overall was hard to fault my confidence grew just before the race when Opie came out, he was smiling - he was confident, he was happy and when he's in the zone, he is just absolutely impossible to beat.
Probabeel comes from our filly barn and its quite amazing to think we have our 'black type beauties' Lilikoi, Probabeel, Melody Belle and Avantage in the small stable, which is run by Nicole Shailer. You won't find any better than Nicole - she runs this barn with military precision. She is an amazing human being and we are so lucky to have her in our team.
So, I got back to the hotel after the races and had one beer and went to bed so that I could be all set for the sales and have a nice clear head. There are some really nice athletes in the sale, and I find it impossible not to buy a really good horse when I see one as I can visualise how they will develop and mature into good athletes.
The horses we are purchasing are selling at record speed! We have never sold shares so quickly so if you want to be involved, have a look at our "Yearlings and Shares" page nwo.
We bought 12 yearlings yesterday and as we buy, we update our website with our new purchases. So remember, if you want to be involved send Karyn an email ([email protected]) you'll be made to feel very welcome.
We love having new owners in our team and we enjoy showing them around Te Akau Stud and Te Akau Racing.
You too can be part of a team with a yearling bought by David Ellis, trained by New Zealand's leading trainer Jamie Richards and ridden by our stable rider, the Group 1 genius Opie Bosson. So, don't delay giving me a call on 021 925 151 or email Karyn.
