Te Akau Monday Update

It was a very enjoyable day at Ellerslie on Saturday.  Whilst we may not have got the result we hoped for in the Derby itself, we were realistic that with a firm track and terrible draws, the task was always ahead of our two representatives.

However it is really important to remember that firstly, both horses have come through the race well.  Secondly with all credit to them both, Spellbinder and King Savinsky are such genuine horses and they try their hearts out, they leave it all on the track.  We are proud of them both.

Our other runner on the day Sir Darci also did us proud being nosed out of second in a gritty effort!

Finally it was a so wonderful to catch up with our many owner friends who had made the journey to be at Ellerslie on the day - not to single anyone out but there was Morriss from Invercargill, Jim and Judy from Queenstown with Phil and Ella.  We caught up with Paul and Beverley and daughter Julia from Wellington and Don travelled north from Ashburton.  After not being 100% it was wonderful to see Wal and his lovely wife Julie on course Mitch was there from the Mount and having our new team member Jamie Richards with us was great too.

All three of our Ellerslie runners were bought by David from Karaka and for very reasonable prices too.  The shares in our yearlings from Karaka this year continue to sell very well and we are chuffed to welcome so many new owners to Te Akau again this year.  We will be having our first owners' only event in coming weeks and we look forward to meeting as many of you as possible.   We will be in touch with details in due course.

It is also great to welcome back so many of our current owners who have re-invested too.  It's a great team of owners and we thank you for you loyal and enthusiastic support!
