What a wonderful past nine days Te Akau Racing has had with ten wins for our owners!
It’s been an incredibly busy and exciting time for the stable and it gives us all great satisfaction to see the horses performing so well for their owners. Success like this is only achieved by an incredible team – it is the result of a team of talented horses, loyal owners and a truly dedicated team who works tirelessly every day to make sure our horses have every possible opportunity to succeed.
In fact, in the past six days alone we have trained six winners, following on from the fantastic double on NZB Kiwi/Champions' Day at Ellerslie where Lara Antipova won the Group 1 Sistema Stakes and Top Shelf claimed the Elsdon Park Trophy.
On Tuesday Harry Met Sally won at Ballarat, and then on Wednesday we saw an exciting performance from our promising two-year-old colt Seize The Day who won very easily at Matamata. He is now bound for the Group 1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes later this month.
Thursday saw a Riccarton double with Novelette notching up her first win and Cool ‘N’ Fast going back-to-back - fun fact: Novelette is by Cool Aza Beel and Cool 'N' Fast in Cool Aza Beel's full brother!
Then on Friday we headed to Pukekohe where we trained yet another double - She Suits Herself, who has been running very good races, deservedly got her win and Thumbelina, who we were recently entrusted to train, also saluted the judge.
Congratulations to all our owners involved.
That takes our New Zealand winning tally for the season to 95, a lead of 23 wins on the New Zealand Trainers’ Premiership. We have also recorded 75 second placings and 78 thirds, while Te Akau currently leads the way on prize money won for our owners at $6.55 million. We have recorded 13 black type wins this season, and all of this with an excellent strike rate of 5.81.
I woke up this morning to some really good news that our Derryn colt from Karaka had a full brother named Call Me Sparkle win on debut in Hong Kong on Sunday night. We all know how competitive the international racing is there, so to win first up was quite an effort!
There is still surprisingly still 40% available in his 'little brother' - he's a magnificent colt as you can see above, and he has just left to commence his early education. present.
He is Lot 108 the Derryn/Secret Spirit colt and he was great buying at $100,000. He has been entered in the Karaka Millions and he's just the type of horse we can imagine being in the race in January.

One filly that I am also really surprised that there are still shares available in is Lot 270 from Karaka. This is an In The Congo filly out of Anaween that we purchased for $400,000. She is just an absolutely stunning filly that I think can also be a Karaka Million candidate in January - she certainly has got the scope to train on to be a Group 1 NZ 1000 Guineas' type of filly - and she's entered in the lucrative Pearl Bonus Series too.

On Friday night we had 8mls of rain at Te Akau Stud, which really isn’t enough to do anything. The farm is starting to dry out now but the stock are still in magnificent shape. We have sent another lot of lambs off today, and two units of steers will go this week – both at prices that are very positive.
Best of luck to all our owners with runners this week - we really appreciate all the interest and support you give us!
