Te Akau Monday Update

David writes:

It's a big day today as we start our yearling inspections with Cambridge Stud at 10.00am. Tomorrow we have the day off but on Wednesday we are visiting Westbury Stud and Hallmark Stud then we are finishing the week off on Friday at Trelawney Stud. It is already an exciting week leading up to Waikato Times Gold Cup Day, Karyn is on her way home from London after having a terrific time with our daughter Lydia. Mark Walker has done it again with a terrific weekend in Singapore winning a race on Friday night and another race last night with some great performances from other horses suggesting further wins will be just around the corner.

This morning started before daylight with the team sending a unit (35 bulls) to Greenlea. The price of cattle has well and truly peaked and it's on the way down. Fortunately we sold quite a few when the price was at record levels. After the bulls went, we turned our attention to the horses being trained at Te Akau Stud. We have three riders at the moment with Charlotte Kellow, a local girl at Waikato Diocesan starting this morning.  Charlotte works for us regularly during the school holidays and is a beautiful rider but unfortunately her real passion in life is playing polo. Above and below are some photographs of them working with our staff Sophia Fowlie and Amalie Larson aboard. The chestnut is Brer and the other two are Sunset Pass and Ekraar/Cape Win (Hurly). All three jumpers have shown ability with Brer winning on the first two days of the Grand National Carnival, these horses will have a month's work around the hills before they go back to the stable in January.

Have a great week!
